Patricia Hill Burnett passes away at 94

I've known Patricia since the middle 70's when the Peggy Jo Studio first photographed her for the Detroit Magazine. Over the past several years, we became special friends while again photographing her and assisting her with her extensive Holiday Card mailings. She was one of my Send Out Cards customers and I was able to use their tools to create beautiful Christmas Cards. Patricia had a wonderful sense of humor and it was always delightful to be around her and photograph her. To know her was to love her---Patricia, you will be certainly missed.

One of her memorable quotes:

Never say No, except when someone asks You "Do you have enough?"

Visitation:

Visitation will be at Desmond Funeral Home, 32515 Woodward Avenue Royal Oak, MI (248) 549-0500, from 5:00 PM till 8:30 PM on Monday January 12, 2015.

Holiday Giving Guide

Every year during the holiday season there are many rumors spread about some of the charities that ask for our donations. We gathered some information about these supposed revelations.

First we have a Snopes analysis of an annual letter that is circulated which can be seen by clicking here and then an analysis by the prestigious Forbes Fianancial magazine which has some links to a few web sites that rate the various charities.

Club Trips, Special Events and Cruises

Over on the left column of this newsletter is a link to a list of events that are occurring in the future and require advance preparations. We are encouraging club publicists to use our entry procedure to let us know about these events. Readers can access this list at http://www.graynwhite.com/admin/TripsAndCruises.php This link is available from one's desktop, laptop, tablet or smartphone.

From our readers

Dear Peggy Jo,
Thank you for publicizing my book Her Sacrifice it took many years for me to complete. Now, with Amazon, it is in circulation. I would like the people that downloaded the book during last week's sale to take the time to fill out the review form so that I can see what the general public thinks of my book because I am in the process of writing another.

In addition, I have reduced the price of the book to $4.99 efectively immediately and in anticipation of the new season of "Downton Abbey". The events in my book take place in roughly the same time period.

yours truly,
Francine LeGrove.
Dear Peggy Jo,
Subject: A little humor is always good
  1. I'm not saying let's go kill all the stupid people. I'm just saying let's remove all the warning labels and let the problem work itself out.
  2. I changed my car horn to gunshot sounds. People move out of the way much faster now.
  3. You can tell a lot about a woman's mood just by her hands. If they are holding a gun, she's probably angry.
  4. Gone are the days when girls used to cook like their mothers. Now they drink like their fathers.
  5. You know that tingly little feeling you get when you really like someone? That's common sense leaving your body.
  6. I don't like making plans for the day because then the word "premeditated" gets thrown around in the courtroom.
  7. I didn't make it to the gym today. That makes five years in a row,
  8. And so I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.
  9. Dear paranoid people who check behind shower curtains for murderers: If you find one, what's your plan?
  10. Everyone has a right to be stupid. Some just abuse the privilege.

The unfailing love of the LORD never ends! By his mercies we have been kept from complete destruction. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each day. I say to myself, The LORD is my inheritance; therefore, I will hope in him!"
Lamentations 3:22-24

Fifty of the area's up-and-coming and veteran comics come together to tell the first jokes they've written for the new year, kicking off the 2015 comedy scene in the most righteous way possible! The Greenhorn Kids - Race to Mackinac
Detroit Regional Yacht-racing Association

WED 2015-01-07

Tom Caulfield's vision was to assemble a group of dads, willing to allow their children the opportunity to sail the Mac. How he and 5 other Dads trained, organized, and acted as crew for their sons. Come hear about why they decided to do it, the planning and costs that were involved, and all the roadblocks they faced. But more importantly how this experience changed the lives of these 6 junior sailors; and how the boys themselves built a team. Tom has Sailed for over 30 years. He was a Crescent Junior Sailor and has sailed 16 Mac Races. He is the Co- Founder of the Grosse Pointe South Sailing team.

Ari Buchanan may join as a presenter as well. He has also sailed for over 30 years and has delivered and cruised multiple trips along the east coast including having sailed his family from Charleston to Detroit

Learn about their adventures sailing a big-rigged, high-performance sloop through the far reaches of ocean and seas and into ports bristling with navigational and even political hazards as retirees with a budget but no itinerary. Bill is a retired banker and Judy a retired educator.

Blue Water Ski Club Meeting
Metropolitan Detroit Ski Council

WED 2015-01-07

Blue Water International Ski Club

Port Huron, MI & Sarnia, ONTARIO

The Blue Water International Ski Club has over a hundred members who all share a love of travel and outdoor adventure. The club plans and facilitates at least two trips every year. In the past few seasons we've skied; Vail and Aspen/Snowmass, Colorado; Moonlight Basin, Montana; Jackson Hole, Wyoming; Whistler and Panorama, British Columbia; Killington, Vermont and Sugerloaf, Maine just to name a few. Because we travel as a club we enjoy reduced rates on airfare, lift tickets and condo fees, so our trips are reasonable and affordable. Every level of skier is welcome as we have members who ski the easy runs as well as those who take on the aggressive slopes. New members will find that we double as a social club with fun, interactive meetings and events such as BBQ's, golf outings and sailing get togethers planned year round. This is a great place for couples and singles to meet new people and make new friends.
