KEEP THOSE WINTER LIGHTS BURNING!

Hope you heard me on AM 800 radio station CKLW on the "Morning Drive " program on Friday morning and then the repeat broadcast on Sunday.

We may not be saving lives like the man who jumped on top of that guy who fell off the subway platform and kept him down as the train rolled over them both.... But we can help lift spirits by leaving our winter lights up and lit during January and February when people tend to get depressed ....the little twinkle lights help brighten up the gloomy season. Just think how much more productive people are when they're not feeling downhearted. It makes such a difference in their disposition!

A couple of responses from man-in-the-street interviews on CKLW after my conversation on the air with Mike Kakuk were that the Christmas lights are up for the holy celebration of the birth of Christ. I agree with the "reason for the season," but the lights really have nothing to do with Christ's birth. Also, Hanukkah may be known as "the festival of lights," but that refers to the lighting of candles in a menorah. I don't think it would be sacrilegious to leave the outdoor lights up and glowing another month or two longer

Another person thought that we’d tire of the "winter lights" pretty soon and they'd no longer be special. Well, I think we’ll tire of the dingy gloom long before we’ll tire of twinkling lights. Besides, I’ve never heard anyone say they’re tired of the beautiful flowers in their season!

Mike Kakuk (mike@am800cklw.com) said he’s interested in your comments on this subject. Please copy me, too: peggyjo@peggyjostudio.net.

here is the interview It is a large file and it will take a long time to download.

Happy New Year, Peggy Jo!
I have met you just once at a singles event and know you would not remember me but PLEASE know I enjoy each weekly email letter of events and certainly WANT to stay on your mailing list. I appreciate the time and effort this commitment takes you each week and would like to "Thank you" very much. I look forward to your updates in 2007!
Suzanne

Hi Peggy Jo. I wanted to thank you again for thinking about me during the holidays. I was feeling sad and your concerns really helped me to begin to pull out of it again. Generally I am the one who encourages people, but with so much in my life lately I guess I needed it. In any case thank you and I can never say that enough. I have always said it that just that small kindness that can make a big difference in one's life. I can tell you are one of those special persons .Happy New Year and God Bless.
Please, can you tell me if I requested this newsletter and when. I don't remember meeting you Peggy - please refresh my memory
Beverly.

Hi Beverly,
I'm sorry, I don't remember either. Perhaps one of your friends gave me your email address. Regardless, I hope you enjoy the newsletter and that we'll meet at an event. However, you are able to opt out at any time but I hope you don't.
Peggy Jo
Good work Peggy Jo
Royal Oak still has their lights in the trees glowing. Rochester was spectacular but is comparatively dull now that they have turned their lights off. Birmingham and Royal Oak still have their lights up so come down to where they celebrate winter just like they do in Quebec.
Ralph L.
Yeah, Peggy Jo....I love the "drive" to keep the lights up all winter.....who knows....this concept could "snowball" into something really big! Hope so.....Michigan winters can be so dreary........ Take care! Happy New Year!
Rand
I think that leaving the lights up and on is a wonderful idea. People seem to think that, come January, they HAVE to be done with the lights. If lots of people would say, I'm doing it because Peggy Jo said it's all right," then we'd see lots more lights lit at night.
M.
This is a terrible idea! Lights up after the holidays look so tacky. Nobody does it, so how can it be a good thing to do?
R

In this wintry season of holiday light,
May you have peace & love
To your hearts delight!
Shalom!
Sharon R.
Nice thoughts at the beginning of this newsletter.(Ed note: referring to article in 1/1/2007 issue) I agree!
NANCY
A great message, and one the light putter-upper will agree with----(Bette)
You sounded like a radio pro. You had no doubt about it no matter what you say. For years we've had our lights on our balcony all year round.
I like your idea.
DJ

Hi,
I think it is a lovely idea to keep the light up and on, how creative!
Ann
No one wants to read all this stuff. Just stick to the events.
