Peggy Jo's Recommendation

The Dinner Shows being presented by Empire Entertainment are class events and I heartily recommend them for a complete evening of entertainment. Here are some photos

Amyloidosis

Susan Tabar Susan Tabar is still struggling with her health and needs our prayers. She will probably be admitted to the University of Michigan Hospital.

From Friends of Susan:
Dear Friend of Susan: Happy New Year. We wanted to keep you up to date on Susan's status. Susan's 2013 has started off on a rocky start. The day after Christmas Susan started the second phase of chemo treatments ( each phase is about 4 weeks). The normally 50 minute trip to Ann Arbor this day nearly turned a 4 hour drive home to her friend's home in the Birmingham area, after a raging snow storm developed dropping over 7 inches from Ann Arbor to Birmingham.

The following week, the treatment appeared to be a much smoother experience. The weather was dry and her trip to Ann Arbor from her friend's house in the Birmingham area was less than 50 minutes. However this treatment did not seem to go as smoothly as one thought. A day after her chemo treatment, Susan woke up in the middle of the night, startling her friends with her tongue filling her mouth and literally ripping it open. An emergency call was made to the doctor at U of M. where they wanted her to come into emergency. She made the trip back to Ann Arbor and checked into the E.R. at U of M. She was then admitted to the hospital and was to be released the following day after observation. Unfortunately chemo takes away your immune system and with the height of the flu season, poor Susan contracted the flu in the E.R.. She wasn't released from the hospital till 5 days later. She was still sick with the flu when she was released, but the doctors felt it was better and safer for her to be home away from additional sick patients. They prescribed her Thera-Flu which only made her sickness worse. She had to make another trip to the doctors to make sure her blood counts were ok as she was losing blood in her stools. Thera-Flu's side effect is rectal bleeding. The results are expected to be in today and the doctors are already suggesting that she may have to come in to the hospital for more observation. After the last ordeal in the hospital, Susan is fighting this with all her might. Please say a prayer that she does not need to go back in.

FYI: Curling in Canada
Catholic Alumni Club

SAT 2013-01-26
SATURDAY, JAN. 26TH 1:00 PM TO 8:00 PM FYI: DCS CURLING EVENT, CANADA Curling is like shuffleboard on ice, trying to slide your stone to get it to stop on a target and hit opponent's stones out of the way while your teammates brush the ice to get it to slide into position. Don't worry if you haven't played before-just dress warm (it's as cold as being outside!) and we'll teach you the rest. Carpool will be 1:00 pm in the parking lot of St. Mary's elementary school at 730 S. Lafayette Ave., north of Lincoln in downtown Royal Oak. Then we will proceed to the Roseland Golf & Curling Club at 455 Kennedy Dr W, Windsor, ON N9G 1S8 CA. Club phone (519) 969-3810. Ice time reservation is 2:30 PM - 4:30 PM. Bring your passport or enhanced driver's license/state ID (not a regular license/state ID) or else you won't be able to cross the border. Cost: about $12 to $15 for curling depending on how many show up to share the ice rental. Dinner in town afterward. It's best to change your currency before going over. Please RSVP by the week prior so we can reserve enough sheets of ice and seats for dinner. 248-543-0021

CACD Volleyball
Catholic Alumni Club

SUN 2013-01-27
SUNDAYS, JAN. 6TH, 13TH, 20TH & 27TH 3:00 PM TO 4:30 PM CACD VOLLEYBALL! Who is up for some indoor recreation and fellowship during the long, dark, cold months of winter? There is a nice facility in Southfield, the Beech Woods Recreation Center, that allows drop-in use of their gym for only $5 per person. I've already played volleyball with this group; it's a friendly, non-competitive mix of men and women, aged 30 & 40 "somethings," who play at the beginner to intermediate level. We are invited to join them or the staff can set up another net if we get a large turnout. The location is as central as we could find for the club: only one mile west of 9 Mile & Telegraph Rd. The address is 22200 Beech (the extension of Beech Daly), Southfield, MI 48033. It is one block south of 9 Mile Rd., on the east side of the street. There is ample parking, two staff personnel on duty, locker rooms, bathrooms, a junk food vending machine, a bleacher area to watch if that is more your style, and the place is WARM despite its large size! Afterwards, we will go out to eat at a nearby restaurant on Telegraph, between 9 & 10 Mile Roads - there are plenty to choose from. Please RSVP by the day-of so I can know to look for you. 810-499-4831 yesmarklapointe@gmail.com

CPR (Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation)
Detroit Regional Yacht-racing Association

WED 2013-02-20

CPR (Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation)

by Loretta Rehe (at the Edison Boat Club)

Because an emergency can happen anytime anywhere, the American Heart Association's CPR and AED learning programs help increase survival rates by training people just like you to respond quickly. The sad truth is most people don't survive a cardiac arrest. Four to six minutes is the window of opportunity for someone to act before it is too late, but fewer than one-third of cardiac arrest victims get CPR from someone nearby.

In the HeartSaver CPR/AED course, you will learn how to perform "Hands only CPR", and single rescuer CPR which includes Compressions, Airway and Breathing. You will learn abdominal thrusts to help someone who is choking. If you complete the course and pass your skills test, you will receive a card that states you have completed the objectives of the course.

You should be aware that this session is by advance registration only and is available for a limited number of participants. It is the only seminar with a fee to cover the cost of materials -- $30.00 paid with the registration. In the event that we receive reservations in excess of the capacity there may be a second session on Thursday, February 21. Final day to register is Friday, February 15, 2013. The presentation will start promptly at 7:00 PM at the Edison Boat Club. No food or beverage service will be available.
From 7:00 pm to 9:00 PM. Price is $30. Location: Edison Boat Club
