How Children View Their Grandparents!

A Cup of Tea

One day my Gramma was out, and my Grampa was in charge of me.

I was maybe 2 1/2 years old. Someone had given me a little 'tea set' as a gift, and it was one of my favorite toys.

Grampa was in the living room engrossed in the evening news when I brought him a little cup of 'tea', which was just water. After several cups of tea and lots of praise for such yummy tea, my Gramma came home.

My Grampa made her wait in the living room to watch me bring him a cup of tea, because it was 'just the cutest thing!' Gramma waited, and sure enough, here I came down the hall with a cup of tea for Grampa, and she watched him drink it up.

Then she said, (as only a gramma would know), "Did it ever occur to you that the only place she can reach to get water is the toilet?"

Emails from our readers

Dear Peggy Jo,

I have told many people over the years that Detroit was a great
place, a fabulous place, to grow up---all the attached memories
were a part of that heritage---many unique features contributed to
the rich diversity of the town---every country from Europe was
represented, most with with enough people to have an ethnic club, and usually
a skilled soccer team----

I have never had anything anywhre better than a Sanders Hot Fudge
Sundae, or an Awreys Almond Tea Ring, or a Vernors Ginger Ale (or
their Boston Cooler)---

Or found a better day than the .50 cent bleacher seats for a Sunday
double-header at the old Briggs Stadium---or the 1st in USA  Davison
X-way---is there any guy out there who did not take their 1st car
out on the Willow Run X-way to see how fast it would go ???

There was also a rich diversity of streets in Detroit---I have traveled to
& driven in virtually every large city in N. America and never seen
streets with names like Beaubien, Cadiuex, Charlevoix, Gratiot,
Livernois, Vernier, etc, after our early French settlers---or some
other unique names like Kercheval, 8-Mile, 10-Mile, 15-Mile, etc.
(several cities have a 5-Mile rd.---but not all the mile markers)

I am glad I grew up in the city when it was such a great place---
and this is why it is so saddening to see how it has become !!!

R.H.

Dear R.H.,

We put the rest of your letter on the blog which is here

We would also encourage people to look at this blog link Be sure to scroll down to see the second video about re-imagining Detroit.
