"Our Prayers For America" Call-in

Don't forget- Beginning Saturday, January 31st through Friday February 6th, you'll have the opportunity to call in to 1-866-371-6966 and share your prayer for America.

This weekend you have the opportunity to call in and have your prayer for the nation recorded and possibly air on the Focus on the Family Broadcast with Dr. Dobson. These prayers may also be used by NDPTF throughout the year.

The Broadcast will be aired in advance of NDP to remind people to pray for our nation on NDP and every day. Don't miss this opportunity to share your prayer for the nation during this unique call-in.

Brain Teaser Answer

Two people were able to solve the "Brain Teaser". The first was Dan Butterworth who was correct and his only comment after being informed that he was a winner was "Looking for someone with whom he can share his mustard"

Shelly Hornbacher was the other winner with a solution that was so close that we awarded a prize to her. Her comments were "You can say that I am a Mom of four Dondero grads, Grandma of one beautiful little baby boy named Isaac, and that my husband and I (married 30 years this March) own Hornbacher Concepts, a cabinet shop in the area for the last 25 years.
Good Job Guys!!
Thank you very much!!"

You can get to the teaser and the solution by clicking here.

What are we Missing?

On a cold January morning, in the rush hour, a man played a violin in a Metro station in Washington, DC. He played six Bach works during about 45 minutes. At that time, since it was rush hour, thousands of people went through the station on their way to work. Three minutes went by, a middle-aged man noticed the musician playing, slowed his pace and stopped for a few seconds, then hurried on. A minute later, the violinist received his first dollar tip: a woman threw the money in the violin case without stopping. A few minutes after that, someone leaned against the wall to listen to him, but then looked at his watch and started to walk again.

The one who paid the most attention was a small boy. His mother dragged him along, hurrying, but the child stopped to look at the violinist. Finally, the mother pushed the boy so he walked on, but kept turning his head to look back. Several other children did exactly the same thing, but all the parents, without exception, forced them to move on.

In the 45 minutes the musician played, only six people stopped and stayed for a while. About 20 gave him money but continued to walk. He collected $32. When he finished playing, no one noticed, no one applauded.

The violinist was Joshua Bell, one of the best musicians in the world. He played one of the most intricate pieces ever written, on a violin worth $3.5 million. Two days before playing in the subway, Joshua Bell sold out at a theater in Boston and the seats averaged $100.

This is a real story. Joshua Bell, playing incognito in the Metro station, was organized by the Washington Post as part of a social experiment about perception, taste and the priorities of people. The questions were: in a commonplace environment at an inappropriate hour, do we perceive beauty? Do we stop to appreciate it?  Do we recognize talent in an unexpected context?

One of the possible conclusions from this experiment could be that if we do not have a moment to stop and listen to one of the best musicians in the world playing the best music ever written, how many other things are we missing?

A Beutiful Presentation!

I recieved this Powerpoint slide Show which came with some music. Unfortunately we can't place the presentation on the web but we have adapted it to be shown on the blog without the music and also with the autmatic transitions. You can reach the Flash document and expand it to full screen and scroll down through the pictures. Each slide comes with a beutifull thought provoking message. Get it here.

Let's get it right!!

Royal Oak RoyRoyal Oak Roy, The Royal Oak groundhog promises to "Tell it Like  it is". Due to the hype of the various groundhogs around the country, the original meaning of the groundhog's amazing ability has been  changed to one of predicting the length of the rest of the winter. This is false. groundhogs can predict without fail when Spring will arrive which is different from .predicting the weather.

If, on February 2 he is frightened by his shadow, Spring will not arrive for another month and a half. However, if it is a cloudy day , Spring will arrive in a mere 6 weeks. He has never been wrong.

Winter Lights !

Keep the Winter Lights up.

Yea!! Birmingham and Royal Oak!! You still have your "Winter Lights" on.

Love seeing those lights around town!

This Week's Now Famous Person

Commodore George Voulemenous is now now famous because he is appearing in the "Got Mustard Campaign" He also famous for being the Vice Commodore of the Detroit Regional Yacht-racing Association (DRYA). The DRYA is currently conducting it's weekly seninars at various area Yacht Clubs. (See Wednesday's events) . George is also the Past-Commodore of the Ford Yacht Club on Grosse Isle.

So when you see or contact George be sure to tell him you've seen him in the "Got Mustard" campaign. You can see the other hundreds of people by clicking on the underlined words above.

So many people have volunteered to participate that we have found it necessary to change the way the slide show runs so that people can browse rather than wait to see their photo with the "digital mustard" on their upper lip. One can replace the phrase in the section box with their first name and deleting any other text in the box. Then only the slides that contain that name are displayed.

If you had your photo taken and can't find it in the slide show please send us an email. If you would like to send a photo to be included, send it to webmaster@peggyjostudio.net. We will supply the "digital mustard".

Congratulations Commodore Voulemenous
