Mardi Gras and Ash Wednesday in the Background

With our attention focused on this year's Super Bowl, which might be historic and the newfound interest in politics which is overshadowing Mardi Gras and Paczki day with Super Tuesday, we should take some time to contemplate the coming lenten season that will start on Wednesday.

John McMurray Packs Bayview

BYC Jan. 2008

John McMurray, best known for his weather comments and predictions on WJR, was the leader of the Detroit Regional Yacht-racing Association (DRYA) weekly seminar held on Wednesday at The prestigous Bayview Yacht Club. Jan 2008 BOf course, his topic was weather and he packed the main meeting room at Bayview again this year. The free Seminar series continues this coming week at The Grosse Isle Yacht Club (see event below)

On hand for the seminar were plenty of Commodore's as shown in the photos.

FTC Fines Spammer

[ I've always wondered If I could get a free Laptop that way!]

An online advertising firm, reached a $200,000 settlement this week with the Federal Trade Commission for using what the FTC described as "deceptive" spam and ads to draw users to its Web sites. Commonly, the commission says, Member Source Media would send out spam e-mails that promised prizes such as a free iPod or a $500 Visa gift card. Additionally, the company would pay for ads on Web sites that told users that they had been chosen to win similar prizes. (Learn about Antispam products from our Messaging Security Buyer's Guide.)[Editors Note: This is something you readers may want to know.

Let's Continue The Campaign

Let's keep the campaign going to leave those twinkle lights up until the weather changes. the days are longer and the light is brighter. We need something to brighten up these dingy days .Let's thank Royal Oak and Birmingham for keeping their lights up-they look gereat especially on those snowy days.

From our readers:

Why are you big thinkers on racial issues or any issues afraid to sign your name.  If you can speak of Martin LUTHER KING ISSUES SIGN YOUR NAME---I have never seen so many chickens in a news letter---learn to pluck your feathers---sign your name and add your photo.  If you want to be a mouth piece----show who you are.  You speak such words but are you ashamed or scared to say who you are???????   How old are you?
Judy Thaff

Hi Peggy Jo,

I'm appalled at the comments made by this "anonymous" letter writer.  He sounds ANGRY and LONELY.  If he'd take the time to visit a local school and assist a child who needs help with reading or math, the child might help him get over his anger.

As I sit here again reading his letter, it makes me laugh because I never knew that was the definition of a strong, vibrant, hard working, good looking, independent woman----a "fossilized suburban liberal broad."  My dear husband Ron, God rest his soul, would laugh and say to that letter-writing man "Oh my gosh, that also fits the description of my wife.  And any money she has, she earned it."
pat o

"If your organization has any integrity or guts, you will publish this opinion or give it to Peggy Joe."

To the person who wrote this, if you have any integrity or guts, you will sign your name to your
opinion. The Reverend Martin Luther King had the courage to voice his opinions in public not in anonymity.

Walt Stasinski

P.S. Another photo of Tom Brady and Jessica Simpson. Where did you find it?

Dear Peggy Jo,

FYI: Macy's is sponsoring free admission to Detroit area museums. Check out a museum adventure pass at more than 150 regional Detroit Library locations.  All you need is your library card.  Visit www.detroitadventurepass.org for a full list of participating libraries. Passes admit two to four people. Offer ends October 24, 2008.

I am sorry but I have to respond to Born at night:  I find it so interesting that someone would pass such a negative opinion of a person without knowing them---Peggy Jo is one of the kindest, most caring people I have ever met.--You Born at Night have no idea who she is or what she represents.  It is a free country to express our feelings and the Peggy Jo Studio did print your e mail so that you could express your feelings , but boy do you have it wrong on who she is, what her life was like and what she represents. Shame on you for being so narrow minded.
ann

To Born at night,

You obviously do not know Peggy Jo, since you misspelled her name and described someone who resides only in your imagination. Your letter says a lot about you.

Ralph Loren

To the race relations expert,

One of the definitions of pontificate is: to speak in a pompous or dogmatic manner with the intention to making people who disagree with the "enlightened" perspective of the person speaking to feel inferior: which describes your email and not the article excerpted from, and accredited to, someone else in observance of a National Holiday proclaimed by the United States Congress.

Willard Hartwell

Dear Peggy Jo,

The revelations about Kwame Kilpatrick's malfeasance are sure to embolden the racists. I have nothing against racists, I went to school with them and some of my best friends are racists. What thy don't realize is that the two oceans that used to protect us are not doing that anymore and when we "white folks" look around the world we find that we are the minority. I think we should be trying to convince the world that minorities should be respected for our own good. Please pass this on to 'born at night" who I am sure is reveling in the Mayor's fall.

Patricia Smedley

Dear Peggy Jo,

I know you like bible stories so I am passing this story along. When GOD finished the Garden of Eden, He was taking Adam though it and explaining all of the wonders that he created. He told him about each of the animals and how they interacted with other parts of his creation. He told him the names of the birds, reptiles and fish. He showed him all the flowers and grains. He showed him the streams, rivers and oceans and how they all worked together.

He then asked Adam " Well what do you think?"

Adam answered " I am overwhelmed and I am very pleased with what you have created but I do get lonely."

Well Said GOD "I will create a friend for you. She will fulfill all of your needs. She will clean for you, cook for you, and will be obedient to your every command. You will call her woman."

Adam then asked ," What will it cost me?" and GOD answered "Just an arm and a leg.". Adam thought for a moment and then said "What can I get for just a rib?" .
