DRYA Seminar Thu 2/10/2005

Storm Clouds or Sunshine on the Horizon?

This date was re-scheduled from 2/9/2005 to 2/10/2005.

Seminar starts at 7:00 pm. We all know the Michigan joke: Wait ten minutes and the weather will change. But, what if it changes while you are out enjoying the day or in a race? Weather personality John McMurray will explain how to read Mother Nature's signs and be prepared for any weather conditions that she throws your way while out on our Great Lakes.

John McMurray joined abc12 News as Meteorologist in January of 1989 as a weather anchor. Currently, he is a free-lance meteorologist for WJRT- TV.

John previously anchored the weather at abc12 News from 1969-1975. He is also heard as the weather voice on WJR Radio in Detroit.

Born and raised in New York City. John graduated from the New York State Maritime College, New York, NY, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Meteorology.

John and his wife, Mary Ellen, live in Grand Blanc. They have three children and two grandchildren. In his free time, John enjoys sailing and skiing.

John was in the U.S. Air Force as a Captain Instructor and Briefer. He was also the President of Commercial Weather Services.

Professional Associations: American Meteorological Society; Saginaw Bay Yacht Club; Earned his American Meteorological Association "Seal of Approval" as a broadcast forecaster in 1972.

The Seminar will be held at Bayview Yacht Club. 2005 marks the 90th anniversary of Bayview Yacht Club. From its humble beginnings in 1915 in a little shack on a small bay downriver of its present site, Bayview is recognized as one of the finest sail yacht racing clubs in the nation.

And while yacht racing is our primary focus, our success as a club does not come from racing alone. Bayview Yacht Club was founded by sailors dedicated "to the development... and continuance of that finer class of sportsmanship which seems born largely of the sea and the sea-minded."

Bayview means hosting the N.O.O.D. (national Offshore One-Design) Regatta and the Priem's Regatta. It's a cold November night at the bar with a corporate CEO deep in coversation with a member of very modest means about a Mackinac Race shared ten years ago.

Bayview is a tradition of excellence... in the ability of its offshore racers, the dedication of its administrators and the superb hospitality of its staff.

Call Bayview at 313-822-8020 for dinner reservations proir to the seminar.

Our next issue of this newsletter is scheduled for Monday February 14, 2005 which is Valentines day. If we waited until then, you would not have enough time to send your Valentine cards or your gifts. So this is your Valentines Day reminder.

So all you men out there, it is alright to send a Valentine card to me. I would like to show up my teacher friends. Never mind alright-I insist you send me Valentines-PLEEZE-PLEEZE and just remember that all women have one flaw.

By the time the Lord made woman, he was into his sixth day of working overtime.
An angel appeared and said, "Why are you spending so much time on this one?".
And the Lord answered, "Have you seen my spec sheet on her? She has to be completely washable, but not plastic, have over 200 movable parts, all replaceable and able to run on diet coke and leftovers, have a lap that can hold four children at one time, have a kiss that can cure anything from a scraped knee to a broken heart -and she will do everything with only two hands.".
The angel was astounded at the requirements. "Only two hands!? No way! And that's just on the standard model? That's too much work for one day. Wait until tomorrow to finish." .
But I won't," the Lord protested. "I am so close to finishing this creation that is so close to my own heart. She already heals herself when she is sick AND can work 18 hour days.".
The angel moved closer and touched the woman. "But you have made her so soft, Lord.".
"She is soft," the Lord agreed, "but I have also made her tough. You have no idea what she can endure or accomplish." .
"Will she be able to think?", asked the angel..
The Lord replied, "Not only will she be able to think, she will be able to reason and negotiate." .
The angel then noticed something, and reaching out, touched the woman's cheek. "Oops, it looks like you have a leak in this model. I told you that you were trying to put too much into this one." .
"That's not a leak," the Lord corrected, "that's a tear!".
"What's the tear for?" the angel asked. .
The Lord said, "The tear is her way of expressing her joy, her sorrow, her pain, her disappointment, her love, her loneliness, her grief and her pride.".
The angel was impressed. "You are a genius, Lord. You thought of everything! Woman is truly amazing.".
And she is! Women have strengths that amaze men. They bear hardships and they carry burdens, but they hold happiness, love and joy. They smile when they want to scream. They sing when they want to cry. They cry when they are happy and laugh when they are nervous. They cry when their children excel and cheer when their friends get awards. They are happy when they hear about a birth or a wedding. Their hearts break when a friend dies. They grieve at the loss of a family member, yet they are strong when they think there is no strength left. They know that a hug and a kiss can heal a broken heart..
They fight for what they believe in. .
They stand up to injustice..
They don't take "no" for an answer when they believe there is a better solution..
They go without so their family can have..
They go to the doctor with a frightened friend..
They love unconditionally..
Women come in all shapes, sizes and colors. They'll drive, fly, walk, run or e-mail you to show how much they care about you. The heart of a woman is what makes the world keep turning. They bring joy, hope and love. They have compassion and ideals. They give moral support to their family and friends. Women have vital things to say and everything to give..

However, if there is one flaw in women, it is that they forget their worth. You can see the original here Click that mouse.
