Motor City Codeslingers The Great Lakes Area .Net User Group (GANG) is hosting a special programming session.

Each month, GANG hosts an informal meetup of people interested in learning from one another. Programmers of all skill levels can bring a laptop and pair up with someone to work on an open source project, learn a new technique, or even dabble in a new language. There is no agenda or specific topic, just a time set aside for people to pair.

Some attendees have agreed to bring software books that they are no longer reading. If you have books that you would like to exchange with other developers, bring them Wednesday evening.

Those who attend Codeslingers will receive an entry into the 2011 membership drive for a chance to win an XBox 360 and Kinect.

"Staying Alive With CPR" When someone's heartbeat or breathing stops,
immediate CPR is critical to their survival. Learning how to properly administer
Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and to use an Automated
External Defibrillator (AED) is a genuine life-saving skill. Get that
training by joining us for a three-hour class taught by PC Loretta
Rehe, and Ted and Janie Williford, fellow sailors and certified
CPR instructors. There is a nominal fee of $30.00 to cover the
cost of educational materials. Pre-registration before February
26th is mandatory in order to have adequate equipment and
instructors on hand. Participation is limited to 30. If there is
enough interest, a second class will be added on March 3rd at the same location
and time. This seminar will be hosted, form 7:00 – 10:00 PM, by the Edison
Boat Club. No food or beverages will be served. Pre-registration will be
available at any prior Wednesday Night Seminar or through

Classical Roots Celebration

The Classical Roots Celebration supports the wonderful tradition of recognizing African Americans' contributions to classical music.

Black Tie
The program raises funds to provide increased opportunities for African Americans in classical music and supporting the DSO's music development programs, including the DSO's African American Orchestral Fellowship Program.

The annual event has been moved to a new venue: MGM Grand Detroit. It will honor noted composer Hale Smith, along with a special recognition and tribute to the memory of Brazeal Dennard.

The event will feature performances from musician and Sphinx Consortium Composer Daniel Bernard Roumain, the DSO Civic Youth Ensembles and partner organizations, along with a strolling dinner, dancing and dessert.

Guns & Hoses

Every March, the hockey teams of the Royal Oak Police Department & the Royal Oak Guns and Hoses Royal Oak Fire Department square off in the annual Royal Oak 'Guns & Hoses' Charity Hockey Game. All proceeds from this event go to support a local charitable cause in the Metro Detroit area.

The Second Annual Royal Oak Guns & Hoses Charity Hockey Game is scheduled for Saturday, March 12th, 2011 at 6:30 PM at Lindell Ice Arena in Royal Oak.

The beneficiary of the 2011 Royal Oak Guns & Hoses Charity Hockey Game will be Autism ASK, in partnership with My Great Kid. Autism ASK provides resources and information, autism awareness, and direct services through Advocacy, Support and Knowledge. Autism ASK serves individuals with ASD, their families, and the community in Southeast Michigan.

In 2010, the event successfully raised over $7,300 for the family of Madison Heights Police Department Officer Ryan Settlemoir, who tragically died in 2009 from complications related to the H1N1 Virus & Legionnaires Disease.

Over 500 people attended the 2010 Royal Oak Guns & Hoses Charity Hockey Game, where they witnessed the Royal Oak Fire Department beat the Royal Oak Police Department 5-4 in overtime.
