Our blog broke three records this week

On Tuesday we broke a record for the number of hits on the blog and then on Wednesday and Thusday we broke the two previous records. Prepare for Summer with America's Boating Course
Birmingham Power Squadron

MON 2012-03-05
"America's Boating Course" is being offered this Spring by the Birmingham Power Squadron to review boating safety, seamanship, piloting, GPS, charts and compass, etc. The class will meet on Monday evenings for 7-8 weeks. Successful completion earns the student United States Power Squadrons and Michigan DNR Certificates. Cost per students is $45 for materials plus facility fee. The Birmingham Power Squadron also offers Seminars for boaters on the second Saturday morning of each month from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at West Marine, 789 Big Beaver, Troy. The Royal Oak Woman's Club will hold its March meeting at its clubhouse at 404 S. Pleasant Street at Fourth Street on Monday, March 5. Lunch will be served at noon followed by a program and meeting beginning at 12:45 PM. Speaking to the group will be Diane Zalecki, RN, Director of the START program of HAVEN in Royal Oak. The START program is a Safe Therapeutic Response Team that provides crisis support and sexual assault examinations to victims of rape. It serves 180 individuals annually. This meeting and $8 luncheon is open to the public, but reservations need to be made by Wednesday, February 29, with Emily at 248-762-6465. The Royal Oak Woman's Club is a service organization which supports many local charities and provides scholarships to Royal Oak high school seniors pursuing an education in the medical field. Since 1907 it has been a member of the General Federation of Women's Clubs (GFWC), which is a unifying force bringing together local women's clubs with members dedicated to strengthening their communities and enhancing the lives of others through volunteer service. With 100,000 members in affiliated clubs in every state and more than a dozen countries, GFWC members are community leaders who work locally to create global change by supporting the arts, preserving natural resources, advancing education, promoting healthy life styles, encouraging civic involvement, and working toward world peace and understanding. LENTEN SYMPOSIUM: CHRISTIAN VOCATION Set aside some time this Lent for spiritual enrichment. The topic of Holy Trinity Apostolate's 15th Annual Lenten Symposium is the Christian Vocation: The Call to Martyrdom. The day starts with registration at 7:00 AM. Holy Mass starts at 8:00 AM. The day includes a program/open forum with Vic Faust of WXYZ Action News acting as Master of Ceremonies. Other speakers include Raymond L. Cardinal Burke direct from Rome, the Most Reverend Bernard A. Hebda, the Bishop of Gaylord, MI and Mother Margaret Georgina Patton, O.S.B., Council Member from the Abbey of Regina Laudis in Bethlehem, Ct. Some of the topics are: "White Martyrdom", "The Mystery of Redemption" and "Salvific Suffering". The day will include The Archdiocese of Detroit Choir, Schola Cantorum, and Mother Mary & Soldier Song performing Living Stations. Confessions will be available throughout the Symposium. Oakland County St. Patrick's Day Parade

AOH National LogoThe Norman O'Brien Division of the Ancient Order of Hibernians will host the Saint Patrick's Day Parade in Royal Oak on Saturday, March 12, 2011. The parade is an event to honor and celebrate Irish family traditions to include demonstrating Irish pride and heritage. The parade route will begin at the Royal Oak Middle School parking lot and proceed south on Washington, passing the judges/announcer reviewing stand at the intersection of Sixth and Washington, turn west on Seventh St. and end at the St. Mary Church/School parking lot. Parade organizers estimate approximately 300 participants and approx. 2,500 -3,500 in attendance. Plan on comming early to find a good spot to watch the parade!

Purim, from the Book of Esther which celebrates the survival of Persia's Jews in the days of Ahasuerus (Xerxes), is a family-friendly holiday. Pinafore" on Saturday, March 24 at 2:30 p.m. at the Detroit Opera House. Subtitled "A Lass in Love with a Sailor," the one-act comic opera showcases the talents of 44 young performers, ages 10 - 16.
