Know to Make it Go: Heavy & Light Air Sailing

by Al Declercq of Doyle Sails, Detroit (at the Ford Yacht Club)

Al has been supplying sails to Detroit area sailors since 1979. In that capacity, he sails with his customers and advises them on how to make the most of their sails and to best handle their boats. Al will discuss how to adapt to wind strength while sailing our boats. He will discuss what we should do in light and heavy air to get the most from our boats in terms of sail trim, steering, tactics, boat handling and sail selection. Al will have returned from Key West Race Week, and he will tell us about his experiences in this high profile event.

Please join us at the Ford Yacht Club for this seminar from 7:00 - 9:00 PM. Beverage and limited menu food service will be available commencing at 1730.

Doing our part in giving back to the community by serving meals to those on hard times. Volunteers will be involved in food preparation and clean up after serving the meal. They have a head cook that will assign tasks. Participation of 4-10 people are needed. You can park at the Burnstein Clinic at 90 University Dr. in Pontiac. Join alumni and friends for a beer and wine tasting event on Friday, April 12 at 7 p.m. at Traffic Jam & Snug. The event, co-hosted by Wayne State University Athletics Alumni Association and the School of Business Administration Alumni Association, begins at 7 p.m. at Traffic Jam & Snug, 511 W. Canfield, Detroit MI 48201. Cost is $40 per person and includes three taste tickets for an exciting selection of wine and/or house-brewed beer; an array of wings, flatbread pizzas, house-made chips and salsa; and soft drinks or coffee.

Network with fellow alumni, celebrate Wayne State, and get updates on what's going on in the athletics department and business school.

Proceeds from the event will support the sponsorship of a football locker in memory of Wayne State football player, Ed "Mudman" Moten. Moten, a gridiron star in the 1960s and 70s, was a dedicated educator and a coach. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Athletics Alumni Association and the School of Business Administration Alumni Association to support events, programming and alumni initiatives.
