Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the LORD rises upon you. See, darkness covers the earth and thick darkness is over the peoples, but the LORD rises upon you and his glory appears over you."

bread

When it's cold out, it's nice to be in a warm kitchen with something delicious baking in the oven. Cookies, muffins, cakes—everybody has a favorite recipe they like to make for family and friends. The only problem with those traditional favorites is that most of them are made with stripped-out white flour. But there is a way to make those cookies taste better and be better for you: use whole-food flours, especially nut and seed flours that fat- and protein-forward rather than just starch. (Starchy flours cause blood sugar levels to spike, and those constant up-and-down levels are what lead to diabetes, obesity, and a host of other chronic problems.)

So Moses said to the people, "This is a day to remember forever -- the day you left Egypt, the place of your slavery. For the LORD has brought you out by his mighty power. (Remember, you are not to use any yeast.)"

He was looked down on and passed over, a man who suffered, who knew pain firsthand. One look at him and people turned away. We looked down on him, thought he was scum.
But the fact is, it was our pains he carried - our disfigurements, all the things wrong with us. We thought he brought it on himself, that God was punishing him for his own failures. But it was our sins that did that to him, that ripped and tore and crushed him - our sins! He took the punishment, and that made us whole. Through his bruises we get healed."
Isaiah 53:3-5

In the past few seasons we've skied; Vail and Aspen/Snowmass, Colorado; Moonlight Basin, Montana; Jackson Hole, Wyoming; Whistler and Panorama, British Columbia; Killington, Vermont and Sugerloaf, Maine just to name a few. Because we travel as a club we enjoy reduced rates on airfare, lift tickets and condo fees, so our trips are reasonable and affordable. Every level of skier is welcome as we have members who ski the easy runs as well as those who take on the aggressive slopes. New members will find that we double as a social club with fun, interactive meetings and events such as BBQ's, golf outings and sailing get togethers planned year round. Friends, I'd say you'll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious - the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse.
And now, dear brothers and sisters, let me say one more thing as I close this letter. Fix your thoughts on what is true and honorable and right. Think about things that are pure and lovely and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise."

Police & Fire to Drop Puck for 'Guns & Hoses' Charity Hockey Game

The hockey teams of the Royal Oak Police and Fire departments are set to square-off in the fifth-annual Royal Oak 'Guns & Hoses' Charity Hockey Game on Saturday, April 18 at 7:30 p.m. at the John Lindell Ice Arena in Royal Oak. Proceeds from this year's game will directly benefit disabled military veterans throughout Metro Detroit.

Based out of Royal Oak, the Michigan Warriors Hockey Program gives disabled Veterans a no-cost opportunity to get onto the ice. The nonprofit organization provides an educational and developmental atmosphere for Veterans of all skill levels for both stand-up and sled hockey. The program runs completely on donations and sponsorships.

"We're honored by the opportunity to support our military veterans. These men and women have dedicated their lives to serving our nation and in some cases, suffered either long-term physical or mental wounds while doing so. It is our job as Americans to take care of these men and women and this game serves as a means to do just that, said Patrick Stanton, a sergeant with the Royal Oak Police Department and the Guns & Hoses event co-founder.

Proceeds generated from the 'Guns & Hoses' hockey game will be used to support new and existing veterans with hockey equipment, ice time, lessons and games against teams throughout the area, Stanton said.

"As a Veteran of the U.S. Army, I couldn't be prouder of this year's beneficiary. The response to this year's event has been wonderful and we look forward to a fun and successful evening for everyone," said Stanton.

"The Michigan Warriors Hockey Program is a nonprofit organization that aims to provide disabled Veterans the opportunity to live a healthy, active lifestyle and improve their quality of life through the sport of ice hockey," said Josh Krajewski, a US Army Veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan. Krajewski is also the Founder and President of the program.

The program was started by military Veterans for military Veterans with immeasurable help from Carol Schwanger, the Disabled Section of USA Hockey, and the Michigan Amateur Hockey Association, Krajewski said.

"We have all faced challenging adversities while in the military and coming back home to civilian life can be a daunting task. The Michigan Warriors Hockey Program is here to ease that transition by providing the camaraderie of the military brotherhood as well as a fun and challenging atmosphere to stay active,"Krajewski said.

Tickets: Game tickets are $10.00 each and can be purchased in advance by visiting the Royal Oak Police Department or any Royal Oak Fire Department station. Tickets can also be purchased at the John Lindell Ice Arena in Royal Oak on the day of the game.

National Day of Prayer

THU 2015-05-07

Once again we will be gathering to observe the National Day Of Prayer at Shain Park in downtown Birmingham.

The National Day of Prayer is far more than a day to gather and pray. it is truly part of a much larger prayer movement that is changing the conditions of our culture.

ndp The National Day of Prayer tradition predates the founding of the United States of America, evidenced by the Continental Congress' proclamation in 1775 setting aside a day of prayer. In 1952, Congress established an annual day of prayer and, in 1988, that law was amended, designating the National Day of Prayer as the first Thursday in May.

From 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM.. Location: Shain Park. Bates and Merrill, Birmingham, Mi.
