Tiger's Home Opener

Charley "The Singing Hotdog Man" will be making the rounds of the early morning radio shows on Friday April 8, 2011 which is the home opener day for the Tigers. .This will be the beginning of his thirteenth season. He is scheduled to be on the Frank Beckman show sometime around 9:30 AM (760 AM WJR)
At Tiger Stadium in 1999, during a "Three Tenors" concert, Charley let loose for the first time with his signature operatic rendition of hoo00ot DawwwwGs. It is rumored that even Luciano Pavarotti pointed in his direction to recognize his singing. Charley admits that his voice is not trained, just loud. By the way, Charley is employed by the Claymore Shop men's store in Birmingham which is supportive of his part time job at Comerica Park.

In 2000 Charley moved with the Tigers to Comerica Park where he continued his singing . He was once silenced by the management, but fans showed support, which contributed to Charley's acclaim. He was interviewed on the BBC and appeared on "Good Morning America" during the campaign to let him sing. He is now allowed to sing four times during the game, between innings. But now, Comerica Park sells his Ballpark mustard in their gift shop and serves it in the "Tiger Club", the "Beer Hall" & in the suites. His new flavors (which should be coming out the middle of the month) will also be sold and served there.

The game will start at 3:05 PM this year because they will have played out of town the previous day.

Recombobulation:

recombobulation

We really need a lot of these. Urban Dictionary definition of recombobulation is

1. Something being put back the way it was, or into proper working order.
2. Gathering one's thoughts or composure.

In airports, there is usually a sign that reads " recombobulation area" after you go through security.

From the Milwaukee County Journal Sentinel
Taking off your shoes and pulling out your laptop at airport security may leave you feeling discombobulated.
The Mitchell International Airport staff has set up some chairs and a sign just past one of the security checkpoints to help you out. They've labeled it the "recombobulation area.
"Yes, it's a joke. At airport security. The sign has been hanging at the Concourse C security checkpoint for about a month. Some passengers get it immediately. Some take a few steps, then laugh. Others look up and say, "Huh?"
"See? You're getting recombobulated right now," Melissa Fullmore said Tuesday morning to another traveler who was putting on his belt.It took Fullmore, who was traveling home to Tallahassee, Fla., a minute to pick up on the joke. But she said airport security could use more levity."It's a stressful time," she noted. "You've got to throw out your soda."A few passengers have written odes to the sign on their Weblogs.
One question they've raised: Has the airport staff coined a new word?"It's more in a pop culture dictionary than it is in an older version of Webster's," said airport spokeswoman Pat Rowe. "I get an occasional e-mail from someone either saying 'huh' or saying 'thanks for the laugh.' "Airport Director C. Barry Bateman thought the sign would be funny, so airport workers crafted it in their maintenance shop, Rowe said. "We work really hard here, but it's also important to have some fun."Max Wescoe of San Diego laughed when he saw the sign. It was a moment worthy of snapping a picture on his cell phone."I've seen plenty of discombobulation areas," he said, talking both about airport travel and life.He now knows the one place he can come to do something about it.

"I thought they put that up just for me," he said.

Putnam County Spelling Bee
Stagecrafters

This event spans the period from 2011-03-18 to 2011-04-10
Music and Lyrics by William Finn, Book by Rachel Sheinkin Conceived by Rebecca Feldman, Additional Material by Jay Reiss Welcome to Putnam County! Six young people in the throes of puberty, overseen by grown-ups who barely managed to escape childhood themselves, learn that winning isn't everything and that losing doesn't necessarily make you a loser. This tuneful, offbeat musical comedy celebrates the mania of competition, and offers audience members the opportunity (strictly voluntary) to become part of the action as on-stage spellers. One of the songs sums it up best: "If you like to laugh, if you like to spell, you'll like this competition very well." Director: Jerry Haines
