Oprah Winfrey to shine national spotlight on Cafe Muse

A regular patron of Royal Oak's Cafe Muse entered the recipe for the grilled cheese sandwich in a contest sponsored by Esquire magazine. The Oprah Winfrey show sent Gayle King, food correspondent out to test some of these contest entries and when she visited the Cafe she gave it her A-ok. In the photo at the top of the newsletter is Greg Reyner the Chef of the cafe Muse located on Washington Avenue in Royal Oak just north of Fourth Street.

Reyner uses organic bread that they purchase from Ferndale's Strawberry Moon bakery. He then covers it with havarti, fontini, and mozzarella cheeses. He then grills it with butter and a little honey. When the slightly sharp, stringy cheese melts he adds slices of barley and some fresh basil.

Greg's Partner David Smith who supervises the wait staff said that they are honored that their small restaurant will be featured on Oprah during the May sweeps week.

"We wanted a restaurant that expressed our passion for good food" said Smith. "That is why we use the tag linr 'food for inspiration ' ".

Cafe Muse is at 317 S. Washington and is open Tuesday thru Sunday from 7:30 AM til 3:00 PM for Breakfast and Lunch and closed on Monday. For more information call 248-544-4759.

2008 National Day of Prayer

The National Day of Prayer is a day designated by the United States Congress as a day when all Americans regardless of faith are asked to come together and pray for our Nation. It is held on the first Thursday in May.

The 57th Annual National Day of Prayer will take place Thursday May 1, 2008. The theme is "Prayer! America's Strength and Shield" and is bases on the verse from Psalm 28.7 which states "The Lord is my strength and shield; my heart trusts in Him and I am helped."

Again this year we will gather together at Shain Park in Birmingham. We need a team to get together to create flyers and get the information out. We'd love for you to help us with this project. Please respond to me by email and send information to your friends, family, church groups, and synagogues.

2008 National Day of Prayer Chairman

This year's honorary chairman is Dr. Ravi Zacharias. His prayer for our nation is as follows:
Holy Father in a world where so many are hungry, You have given us food in abundance.
In a world where so many are hurting, You offer to bind up our wounds.
In a world where so many are lonely, You offer friendship to every heart.
In a world longing for peace, You offer hope.
Yet, we are so stubborn and resistant. Have mercy upon us, Lord.
Our nation is at a crossroads this year. We look to you to be our strength and shield.
Please give us the guidance to select one who will honor you and to respond to the wisdom from above so that out hope may be renewed and out blessings be treasured.
In God's holy name.

Urinetown - The Musical This darkly hilarious musical satire uses an absurd premise – a devastating drought that has put control of all toilets into the hands of a corrupt corporation – to spoof Broadway plots and conventions. The evil CEO of Urine Good Company, Inc. has the police and the politicians in his pocket, but they won’t be able to stop our idealistic young hero and heroine as they lead the poorest citizens in a revolution against the anarchy of pay toilets. Hailed as one of the most original musicals to hit the scene in decades, you’ve never experienced anything like the Tony Award-winning Urinetown.

Anyone can play, so gather up your friends. This is not a strenous game. Do not procrastinate or you will be put on a wait list.

Inforum- A Professional Women's Alliance

FRI 2008-05-09
The U.S. health care system needs some fundamental fixes. What are they and what will it cost in $$$$$ and care depending on the different solutions proposed by presidential candidates.
This noted panel of health care experts will address the realities of the economics of providing quality care at an affordable price.
46th Annual Meeting The program will feature a panel of experts discussing the future of the United States health care system -- problems, fundamental fixes needed, and what the different solutions proposed by presidential candidates could cost in terms of dollars and quality of care. One model to be reviewed is actuarial insurance, which could impact everyone differently based on individual's health.
Cathy Tripp, Watson Wyatt Worldwide, National Leader of Consumerism, will discuss key findings in a recent survey on the costs and benefits of consumer-directed health care plans.
Nick Barr, Ph.D, Professor of Public Economics, London School of Economics, will discuss the premise that there is no perfect system of healthcare; the model of actuarial insurance and its unsuitability for many medical risks; and how it is no accident that the U.S. system is in a mess and indicates strategic solutions.
Nancy Schlichting, CEO Henry Ford Health System, will talk about the quality equation and how the actuarial insurance model impacts health care delivery.
Kate Kohn-Parrott, Group Director from Chrysler Corporation, will address the business perspective of what the actuarial insurance model does to the economics of running a business and paying salaries that people can actually live on.
This will be followed up with an open discussion about alternative health care models and what areas within the U.S. system could be improved.
Inforum's 2008-08 board of directors and officers also will be inducted at this annual meeting.
