Inn Season --Another Local Restaurant Gains National Recognition.

In our last issue we called attention the Cafe Muse in Royal Oak and it's national attention. Now we report that the Inn Season, also in Royal Oak, has been selected by Health Magazine as an outstanding independent health restaurant.

In the photo above is Amber Pourpore , on the right, the General Manager of Inn Season. The restaurant was established in 1981 and is now in it's 27th year

Health Magazine says:.

In a city where some of the hottest restaurants are cooking up dishes with rich cream sauces, you can thank your lucky stars for the Inn Season Cafe. Whole-grain burgers and lasagnas with veggies rule the roost.

As a result of the national press from HEALTH magazine, Fox 2 News did an on-camera interview with Chef Thomas for the 6 O'clock News.  The Detroit Free Press and Detroit Jewish News also covered the item.

Their new website is at http://www.theinnseasoncafe.com/

Passover

From : infoplease

The Jewish liturgical year is not simply the basis for Jewish holidays, but for the Christian as well--those annual holidays that do not fall on a fixed date but vary according to astronomical occurrences.

The celebration of Passover took place just before the Crucifixion and Resurrection of Christ, and the two holidays have been entwined from the beginning—the word Pasch, originally meaning Passover.

Note: This is the beginning of Holy Week for the Orthodox churchs and Orthodox Easter will be celebrated on April 27th

From Wikipedia

Passover is a Jewish and Samaritan holy day and festival commemorating the Exodus from Egypt and the liberation of the Israelites from slavery. It is also known as Festival of the Unleavened Bread
Passover begins on the 15th day of the month of Nisan, the first month of the Hebrew calendar, in accordance with the Hebrew Bible. The Exodus of the Jews from Egypt took place in the spring and so Passover must be celebrated in the spring. In every nineteen years, an extra month is “intercalated” seven times. It is added before the month in which Passover takes place.
Passover is on Saturday, April 19, 2008

2008 National Day of Prayer

National Day of Prayer Poster

The National Day of Prayer is an annual observance held on the first Thursday of May, inviting people of all faiths to pray for the nation. It was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress, and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman.

The 57th Annual National Day of Prayer will take place Thursday May 1, 2008. The theme is "Prayer! America's Strength and Shield" and is bases on the verse from Psalm 28.7 which states "The Lord is my strength and shield; my heart trusts in Him and I am helped."

Again this year we will gather together at Shain Park in Birmingham. We need a team to get together to create flyers and get the information out. We'd love for you to help us with this project. Please respond to me by email and send information to your friends, family, church groups, and synagogues.

2008 National Day of Prayer Chairman

This year's honorary chairman is Dr. Ravi Zacharias. His prayer for our nation is as follows:
Holy Father in a world where so many are hungry, You have given us food in abundance.
In a world where so many are hurting, You offer to bind up our wounds.
In a world where so many are lonely, You offer friendship to every heart.
In a world longing for peace, You offer hope.
Yet, we are so stubborn and resistant. Have mercy upon us, Lord.
Our nation is at a crossroads this year. We look to you to be our strength and shield.
Please give us the guidance to select one who will honor you and to respond to the wisdom from above
so that out hope may be renewed and out blessings be treasured.
In God's holy name.

Not a Hoax

So many of the emails that are forwarded by well meaning people warning about a virus turn out to be hoaxes. This email is for real. and is covered by Snopes the link is http://www.snopes.com/computer/virus/postcard.asp

Since many of these malicious messages imitate notifications from legitimate sites, recipients should get into the habit of never clicking on links contained within notification Instead, go directly to the web site of the card company, find the card pickup page within that site, and enter the ID code included in the message.(If the message was a fake, the worst that will happen is that you won't get a card.)

We notice that very few people click on the links that this newsletter provides and we know that they have good reason to be cautious. We do check out the links but if one uses the tecnique outlined above, they can be sure they will avoid getting a virus.

If people would check out warnings and other messages relayed to them with the instructions to send it out to all the names in their contact list, before forwarding them, there would be less junk on the internet. Even if the message says it was verified by Snopes, don't believe i

From our readers:

Hi Peggy Jo,

Are you going to be meeting again in Shain Park for this year's National Day of Prayer?

M.R.

Yes We'll be meeting in at 11:45 in Shain Park the first Thursday of May which is May 1st this year!

See you there

Peggy Jo

Dear Peggy Jo,

In my email, many of the events from your weekly email show important contact information cut off at the bottom of that event's info.  My club has had a number of people just 'show up' at events because the contact information was not shown in your email, and it made it difficult to accommodate the extra people because it was a prepaid event.

Examples this week with cut off information are: the Metropolitan Singles drop in volleyball event on April 8, the Latin and Argentine Tango Club event on April 8, the GM Ski Club event on April 10, the Amber House event on April 12, and the Sailing Singles Commodore Ball on April 19, and others. I think it's some kind of formatting problem because the cut off areas seem to move around (like when I forwarded this email to you), and if I 'cut, copy, and paste' the area to show you, it prints out just fine when I 'paste' it. Any ideas?

To clarify, some lines seem to overlap other lines making it difficult to read or deleting important information all together, but when I forwarded this email to you, different lines are covered up and the ones I mentioned read fine!!!! Hope this is clear.

B.M.

Dear B.M.,

Our technician contacted you to get some specific information, which is as follows: You are using comcast and Internet Explorer 6 to read the newsletter. Because the information is sometimes not visible and then becomes visible when you scan other parts of the document and return to the original text, we feel that is a problem of compatibility between your browser (Internet Explorer 6) and your ISP (Comcast) . Since the problem is intermittent it would be difficult for Comcast to isolate the problem. Internet Explorer has a new version 7 and in the process of developing Internet Explorer 8 which is promised to be 100% compliant to browser standards and the problem might be solved.

In the meantime, knowing that the problem is intermittent, and knowing how to work around the problem we hope that you will be patient. Othe readers that have similar problems are encouraged to report the information to both us and the Internet Service Provider.

Isn't the Internet wonderful,

Peggy Jo

Restaurant of the Month
May surprise you for several reasons. It's part of a chain that began in Florida but is locally owned. It's more elegant than the usual rib place, and best of all, the food, including side dishes, is better than at many rib restaurants.

The menu promises that you won't have to use a knife to eat baby-back ribs, and it's accurate. Ribs come in four sizes, from $8.99 to $18.99. A rack is $14.99, one-and-half racks is $18.99, a lunch plate of a half-rack, also served at dinner, is $8.99, and a slab of St. Louis-style ribs is $13.99. St. Louis-style means the meat is not as tender but there's more to eat.

The U.S. health care system needs some fundamental fixes. What are they and what will it cost in $$$$$ and care depending on the different solutions proposed by presidential candidates.
This noted panel of health care experts will address the realities of the economics of providing quality care at an affordable price.
46th Annual Meeting The program will feature a panel of experts discussing the future of the United States health care system -- problems, fundamental fixes needed, and what the different solutions proposed by presidential candidates could cost in terms of dollars and quality of care. One model to be reviewed is actuarial insurance, which could impact everyone differently based on individual's health.
Cathy Tripp, Watson Wyatt Worldwide, National Leader of Consumerism, will discuss key findings in a recent survey on the costs and benefits of consumer-directed health care plans.
Nick Barr, Ph.D, Professor of Public Economics, London School of Economics, will discuss the premise that there is no perfect system of healthcare; the model of actuarial insurance and its unsuitability for many medical risks; and how it is no accident that the U.S. system is in a mess and indicates strategic solutions.
Nancy Schlichting, CEO Henry Ford Health System, will talk about the quality equation and how the actuarial insurance model impacts health care delivery.
Kate Kohn-Parrott, Group Director from Chrysler Corporation, will address the business perspective of what the actuarial insurance model does to the economics of running a business and paying salaries that people can actually live on.
This will be followed up with an open discussion about alternative health care models and what areas within the U.S. system could be improved.
Inforum's 2008-08 board of directors and officers also will be inducted at this annual meeting.
