National Day Of Prayer Thursday May 3, 2012 at Noon at Shain Park, Birmingham

Once again Peggy Jo will be conducting her obsrvance of the National Day Of Prayer at Shain Park in downtown Birmingham.

The National Day of Prayer is far more than a day to gather and pray. it is truly part of a much larger prayer movement that is changing the conditions of our culture. We thank you for joining with us as we work to further the cause of Christ and lift our nation to the Lord.

The National Day of Prayer tradition predates the founding of the United States of America, evidenced by the Continental Congress' proclamation in 1775 setting aside a day of prayer. In 1952, Congress established an annual day of prayer and, in 1988, that law was amended, designating the National Day of Prayer as the first Thursday in May.

BE THERE! 11:45am

From 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM.. Location: Shain Park. Bates and Merrill, Birmingham, Mi.

Mankato: Gorillas take to the street for fun run

In an article on the Twin Cities Pioneer Press it was reported that (the photo is from the 2009 recor setting event in Denver) more than 450 primates running down the street on Saturday, April 21, were part of the Gorilla Run, a fundraiser for the Miracle League of North Mankato and the Fallenstein Foundation, the group that built and maintains Mankato's Fallenstein Field, where children can play in baseball and softball leagues regardless of physical or mental disabilities.

For a $50 donation, runners got a gorilla suit - theirs to keep - to run in courtesy of BuyFun.com.

No official timing was kept for the 2.4-mile run, since it's hard to be competitive while running in a gorilla suit. Organizers hope to take a run at the Guiness World Record for the most people dressed as gorillas, which stands at 1,061.

The latest going around Yarn Bombing

If you haven't heard of yarn bombing, a Google search will show photos of everything from cars and natural spaces to the Wall Street Charging Bull in Manhattan covered in colorful yarn creations.

Knitters use 100 percent acrylic yarn, which can handle exposure to the elements, doesn’t shrink and is relatively inexpensive.

This one was found on Coolidge and 14 Mile Road.

64th Anniversary Vow Renewal 100th Birthday

This is toooo sweeeet The bride was several years older than the groom, with a child from a previous marriage, when the couple eloped. It was, as she told me recently, "a scandal." Last week, almost 65 years later, she celebrated her 100th birthday. His present to her was the traditional Jewish wedding they never had.

Even though an amateur organization, the band performs on a professional level in the area and has even toured Europe. The beginning was modest, but through word of mouth and exposure at a few concerts, the band began to grow. Now at the ripe old age of 24, the band has 90 members and a full complement of instruments. Concerts are at 3:00 PM in the Dexter High School Center for the Performing Arts, 2200 North Parker Rd., in Dexter. Take I-94 west to Baker Road (exit 167). Exit at Baker and turn north on Baker. Go north to the edge of Dexter and turn left (west) on Shield Rd. Take Shield west about three quarters of a mile to its end. Turn left on Parker Road (south) and go about one quarter mile to the school entrance. Turn left (east) into the school grounds. Robert suggests parking in the upper lot.
