National Day Of Prayer
Thursday, May 3, 2012 at Noon at Shain Park, Birmingham

Once again we will be gathering to observe the National Day Of Prayer at Shain Park in downtown Birmingham.

The National Day of Prayer is far more than a day to gather and pray. it is truly part of a much larger prayer movement that is changing the conditions of our culture.

The National Day of Prayer tradition predates the founding of the United States of America, evidenced by the Continental Congress' proclamation in 1775 setting aside a day of prayer. In 1952, Congress established an annual day of prayer and, in 1988, that law was amended, designating the National Day of Prayer as the first Thursday in May.

BE THERE! 11:45am

From 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM.. Location: Shain Park. Bates and Merrill, Birmingham, Mi.

National Story has local Roots

Recently there was a story in the national news concerning a letter delivered many years after it was sent. It had a 10 cent airmail stamp and was sent from a serviceman stationed in Alaska.

The mystery of the longtime route was solved when it was discovered that a box of letters sent to the now ex-serviceman, by his sister, lost one of the letters from the box. A postal worker found it and sent it to the address on the envelope.

The letter was already opened so Sharon Bear, the current resident and PJSN reader, read the letter. It was sent from the serviceman to his family that was living in the house that Sharon now occupies. Sharon contacted the father of that family who is living in a local senior residence.

The photo is of Sharon with her dog "Boy" which she rescued from the streets of Detroit We covered that story here.

Crocker House Museum Trip

SUN 2012-05-06
Crocker House Museum The first mayor of Mount Clemens, Joshua Dickinson, built this Italianate house in 1869. His daughter Katherine, the great-granddaughter of city founder Christian Clemens, and his son-in-law, George M. Crocker moved into the house after their marriage in 1870. Crocker, a former prosecuting attorney and justice of the peace, became mayor upon Dickinson's death. Mount Clemens was known as the great health and pleasure resort of Michigan. People from all over the world and from all walks of life came to Mount Clemens for the healing powers of mineral baths. A visit will take you back in time to when the Crocker family lived in the home and also offer a glimpse into Mount Clemens' famous Mineral Bath era. Many art pieces are also on display by local artist Franklin Harold Hayward. The museum is open March through December, Tuesday thru Thursday 10 am - 4 pm and the first Sunday of each month 1 - 4 pm, excluding holidays. The Crocker House Museum also offers many special and educational programs including a Cemetery Walk, Garden Walk, Garden and Christmas Teas, Etiquette Classes, and historical lectures.

I gave My Sole to Parkinson's

SAT 2012-05-19
Paula and Larry Foy, of Sailing Singles, are amazed how our Walk-a-thon is growing every year. This is one of our biggest events of the year and do appreciate your help. The donations we receive through events like this is how we manage to keep programs going for patients and their families of Parkinson's in Michigan. There is no cure for Parkinson's at this time, but research continues. It is very disabling. We have been blessed with almost 16 years of a "maintenance type" life since Larry was diagnosed . Since the beginning of the year, Larry has been having a very difficult time. Rigidity, balance, speech have been an issue, but my husband is a trooper and NEVER complains and always has a smile on his face. Dates, fees, times and places: Saturday, May 19, 2012, South Lake School, 11:00 AM. Kids fun run at 10:00 AM.

The homes featured this year contain a number of award winners including: First Place: Interior Use of Tile from Detroit Home 2011 Design Awards, "Residential Beautification Award" from RO Chamber of Commerce and a Featured home in 2011 National Association of the Remodeling Industry Home Tour. In addition, one of the home owners was chosen to be the contractor for a project featured on HGTV's "House Crashers".
