How to manage your email

This the second of a series of five tips to make your email more productive.

Filter and Automate

Just about all email programs or services let you set up some form of automated message filtering. This can be as simple as setting up folders to separate important mail from the clutter.

Route messages from important contacts to a folder labeled "Urgent" or something similar. Create a "Read later" folder for routine or subscription messages. You can even create as many subfolders and folders as you need.

Act on the email you receive, and then either archive or delete the messages. The quicker it is out of your inbox, the better. Remember, your inbox is a delivery system, not a storage system!


Our Tenth anniversary is a few weeks off

We started publishing this newsletter every week on the Memorial Day weekend of 2003. We have grown from two pages of events to many more each week. We started with the publising events from two organizations and now we have events submitted from over 27 organizations. Our circulation back then was about 200 and we now have over 8,000.

It would be nice if the people who like getting this in their email box every Monday morning, would reccomend it to their friends and/or family.

Had a week off from digital media (nice but bittersweet) and will not be on much in the future as I have to focus soley on my life and health right now. I am in a very critical state and have made some decisions that were very difficult for me, however, needed to be made.

I am going to need help on all levels in the coming months as the hurdles i will be facing will be the most painful and challenging ever, unfortunately. :(

Please continue to keep me in your thoughts and prayers. I hope all of what i am going through will have a positive outcome so I can have somewhat of a quality of life after this long, difficult arduous journey

Thank you Jesus and thank you, my friends and distant family, (all the angels/servants of God) who are helping/cheering me on to fight this evil battle--- I am forever grateful! As the old adage goes - you really know who your friends are when you go through tough times--- I have learned much and have had no unreasonable expectations but genuine Love and consideration during this process and anticipate only positive in my life surrounded by only those who truly care about my welfare. :-)

This seminar will explore significant changes in the new 2013-2016 Racing Rules of Sailing and review some perennially troubling rules situations. This informative and entertaining seminar will be led by Ted Everingham, an International Judge, US SAILING-certified Umpire and Senior Judge, past chair of the US SAILING Judges Committee and former member of the US SAILING Umpires Committee, and Pat Healy, an International Judge, former head coach of the Canadian Olympic Sailing Team and for 16 years the intercollegiate sailing coach at the U.S. Naval Academy. Pat will present his own unique and highly amusing -- but informative -- look at the rules that will leave you with a perspective you've not seen before. Beverage service (only) will be available. Guitarist/ composer, A. Spencer Barefield has taken his world-class skills across the United States, Canada, Europe and elsewhere as a leader and sideman with Lester Bowie, Roscoe Mitchell, Richard Davis, Oliver Lake, Andrew Cyrille, James Carter, Regina Carter and others. He received a 2010 Kresge Arts fellowship, the most recent of numerous awards including those from the ­National Endowment for the Arts, Michigan Council for the Arts, Arts Midwest, Meet the Composer, Arts International and others, over the years. His numerous recordings have achieved worldwide critical acclaim.

Toronto-based bassist Dave Young spent many of his years laying down grooves for pianist Oscar Peterson, as well as having been a member of the Edmonton Symphony, the Winnipeg Symphony and the Hamilton Philharmonic. Young has swung with musicians such as Lenny Breau, Clark Terry, Harry "Sweets" Edison, Joe Williams, Kenny Burrell, Hank Jones and many others, in addition to having won a JUNO Award (the Canadian equivalent of a Grammy).

Percussionist Sean Dobbins got his start working with trumpeter Louis Smith. From that foundation he has gone on to work with a stellar array of leaders such as Benny Golson, Joey Defrancesco, James "Blood" Ulmer, Tad Weed, Cyrus Chestnut and so many others. He has been honored with the Woody Herman Jazz Award for outstanding musicianship and won a Louis Armstrong Scholarship. A sought-after educator, he is the Artistic Director of Jazz Ensembles of the Detroit Symphony Civic Orchestra.

The Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center's 32nd Annual Art Birmingham is May 11 and 12. This exquisite fine art event, presented by Somerset Buick GMC, brings 150 professional artists to the streets surrounding the picturesque Shain Park in downtown Birmingham. Featured artwork includes painting, jewelry, ceramics, glass, photography, sculpture and more. "The BBAC is honored to showcase the creative and skilled artists who participate in Art Birmingham," said Annie VanGelderen, president and CEO of the BBAC. "We're dedicated to nurturing and enhancing the visual arts in our community; and, thereby, building an exceptional and vital environment for all." The two-day event will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. May 11, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 12. This event is an important fundraiser for the BBAC and supports and celebrates its "art for all" vision.
