Our great desire is that you will keep right on loving others as long as life lasts, in order to make certain that what you hope for will come true. Then you will not become spiritually dull and indifferent. Instead, you will follow the example of those who are going to inherit God's promises because of their faith and patience. "

Pope to fathers: Teach your children well, always be by their side

By Carol Glatz Catholic News Service

VATICAN CITY (CNS) -- On the feast of St. Joseph, patron saint of the universal church and Jesus' earthly father, Pope Francis urged all dads in the world to stick by their children's side, teaching them, guiding them and loving them.

"I ask that you have the grace to be very close to your children, letting them grow, but being by their side. They need you, your presence, to be there, your love!" the pope told fathers present in St. Peter's Square.

St. Joseph's "great mission is to be a guardian," the pope said.

The saint is a model for all educators, whether they are teachers, catechists, parents, religious or priests, "who are fathers, too, you know!" he said.

Like an educator, St. Joseph guided and accompanied Jesus so he could grow in "wisdom and age and grace," Pope Francis said. This is the same thing all parents must do, and "it would be a serious mistake to think that a father and a mother can't do anything to teach their children to grow in God's grace," he said.

Even though God was Jesus father, St. Joseph lovingly took on the paternal role and taught the young Jesus various skills, the value of work, reverence for the Lord, and fidelity and obedience to God's will, the pope said.

He also had to keep his family safe during the difficult period of their exile to Egypt, he said, which makes the saint a special example for refugees and those facing persecution.

In brief remarks to Arab-speaking visitors, especially those from Lebanon and the Holy Land, the pope said St. Joseph "knew how to cross the darkness of doubt, the experience of exile and fleeing from home, without ever losing faith in God and his love."

"Learn from him that only trust in God can turn doubt into certainty, evil into good, total darkness of the night into a radiant dawn," he said.

In his main audience address, the pope gave his heartfelt greetings to all fathers in the square, asking them to show who they were by raising their hands. "Oh, how many dads!" he said. "Best wishes! All the best on your day!"

Pope Francis led the crowd in praying the Our Father, urging them to remember God the father in heaven, but also their own fathers and every father, whether alive or deceased.

Honor your father and mother. Then you will live a long, full life in the land the LORD your God will give you."
Exodus 20:12

Mass at Good Shepard Parish & Lunch at Sinbads
Sun, June 21, 9:45am – 10:45am

Good Shepard Parish,1265 Parkview, Detroit, Michigan

Catholic Alumni Club of Detroit

MASS AT GOOD SHEPHERD PARISH & LUNCH AT SINBADS
Formerly Annunciation, the church, built in 1911 is said to be in the Romanesque style. The exterior shows that influence strongly; it is somewhat unusual with small-scaled towers and a very large lantern over the crossing. The interior is more mixed, with classical influence. As one enters the vestibule of the church, he faces the first artwork, an imitation bas-relief of the Annunciation over the inner door to the middle aisle. Good Shepherd Catholic Church is located at 1265 Parkview St., off Jefferson just east of McClellan Ave., in Detroit. Meet at the main doors for the 10:00 AM Mass. Everyone is cordially invited to be Greek for a day and experience the sights, sounds and tastes of Greece and the hospitality of a proud people whose cultural history dates back over 4500 years.

The Ann Arbor Art Fairs
Art Show

This event spans the period from 2015-07-15 to 2015-07-18
July 15-18* BAFfinalsmallopt
Ann Arbor
The Ann Arbor
Art Fairs
Wed. to Friday, 10 am
to 9 pm
Saturday, 10 am
to 6 pm
never on Sunday

This enticing extravaganza of art is officially divided into four events, listed below. In addition to this, every square foot of outdoor space in this area has been sold to people who did not jury into these four events.

If there is something you have been hankering for, you can find it in Ann Arbor in July. People come from around the country and some shop all four days.

Customers here for the first time are awed by the quantity, the quality and the creativity and vow to return next year. Come to add to your art collection, come to see the best in contemporary art, come to start your collection, you will not be disappointed.

Parking:

The easiest way to avoid the traffic is to head to Briarwood Mall, on I-94, and take the shuttle to the fairs. Or, you can arrive early. There are a lot of parking structures adjacent to the exhibit areas that are full by noon (or sooner). The evenings are also a great time to shop and the nearby parking is easier to find in the downtown.

A new parking alternative: Park downtown easily - 2015 fairgoers can reserve a parking space for an entire day in any of the downtown Republic Parking structures - click here: ParknParty.com

1. The Ann Arbor Street Art Fair
145 Artists On North University, near the Bell Tower

This is the original art fair that started the whole event. Established in 1959, it is highly juried - over 1000 applicants apply for the 190 spaces. The most avant garde work will be exhibited here, as well as many artists who rarely exhibit their work outdoors.

Townie Street Party on Monday night in the Street Fair area, near the Bell Tower.
For more info: www.artfair.org

2. South University Art Fair
200 Artists In the South University shopping district
Held in the area where the Street Fair was originally, this event organized by the local merchants has very high standards and some outstanding artwork. Brown

3. State Street Area Art Fair
330 Artists
This fair, coordinated by the State Street Area merchants, has been around since l963. It is located on Liberty, Thompson and surrounding areas. Often you will find newcomers to the world of art fairs exhibiting here---the stars of tomorrow!

4. Summer Art Fair
Two locations:
250 Artists on Main
and Liberty
200 Artists on
State Street

Organized by the The Guild, an artists organization, this show has the widest range of price levels of any of the Ann Arbor events. Uneven quality, it has some of the best in the show and some of the worst. It is easy to shop on Main Street with nearby parking and a plethora of restaurants.
