Memorial Day

Decoration Day or Memorial Day is a federal public holiday in the United States. Decoration Day is usually observed on the last Monday of May every year. Memorial Day 2014 is on May 26. This day is set aside to celebrate and honor United States men and women who have died serving their country in military. Memorial Day originally began to honor and celebrate Union Soldiers who died during the American Civil War. For many Americans, this day marks the start of summer. Learning institutions are usually closed on this day.

Starting the Twelfth Year

This issue of the Peggy Jo Studio Newsletter (PJSN) is labeled Vol 12 Number 1 because our first issue of the newsletter was published on May 31, 2003. It had only 2 or 3 pages and only covered events in 2 organizations. It was sent to about 200 people. This issue will be sent to over 8,000, will be about 23 pages and will contain information from multiple sources. We do have 27 organizations that do send us information from time to time.

If you like the newsletter, why not recommend it to your friends. If your organization is not getting listed, talk to your organization leaders.

Night at the Drive-In part 2
Ann Arbor Ski Club

SAT 2014-05-24

I fondly remember seeing Star Wars at the University Drive-In Theater that use to sit on the land that Showcase/Rave/Cinemark have been on. The University Drive-In was a big single-screen theater opened in 1965, located between Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti, Michigan. It was demolished in 1985 and a Showcase Cinema was built on the site. Join me for a trip down memory lane.

Compuware Arena's Drive-In opens Memorial Day weekend. It is at 14900 Beck Road, Just N. of M-14 in Plymouth. Adults are $10 & kids $8. With 3 screens showing first-run double-feaure movies. Diane Gledhill is the host for this event 734-368-5237 or diane82103@yahoo.com.

5K Run for the MICHIGAN PARKINSON FOUNDATION.

Reserve by 2014-05-18 for This event spans the period from 2014-06-07 to 2014-06-08

It's almost Spring and you know what that means---we're going to pound the pavement for the annual "I Gave My Sole For Parkinson's" Walk-A-Thon & 5K Run for the MICHIGAN PARKINSON FOUNDATION.

This is one of our biggest events of the year and do appreciate your help. The donations we receive through events like this is how we manage to keep programs going for patients and their families of Parkinson's in Michigan. There is no cure for Parkinson's at this time, but research continues. It is very disabling. Since the beginning of the year, Larry has been having a very difficult time. Rigidity, balance, speech, swallowing all have been an issue, but my husband is a trooper and NEVER complains and always has a smile on his face.

Dates, fees, times and places: Day of Event Schedule:
  1. Registration for Kid's Fun Run: 9:00 - 9:45 am
  2. Registration for Walk/5K Run: 9:30 - 10:30 am

  5. 5K Run/Walk/Stroll begins: 11:00 am
