Memorial Day is a United States Federal holiday

. Memorial Day is observed on the last Monday of May each year.

Memorial Day is formerly known as Decoration Day, and commemorates U.S. men and women who died while in military service for their country.

Memorial Day was first enacted to honor Union soldiers of the American Civil War and it was expanded after World War I to include American casualties of any war or military action.

Memorial Day and Labor Day are often referred to as bookend holidays, marking the beginning and end of the summer holidays in the United States.

Happy New Year!!

This will begin out tenth year publishing this newsletter. When we started out, we were publicizing events for only two organizations and emailing less than two hundred people each week. Now we are publicizing at one time or another 35 different organizations and emailing to over 8,000 subscribers.

We hope that you will continue to support this newsletter by not only patronizing our advertisers, but also by letting them know that you saw their advertisement in the PJSN. If you go to one of the events posted in the newsletter, it would be nice if you would tell them that you had seen it in the PJSN.

We are slways appreciative of your tips on how we can improve and what you would like to see. Also tell your friends to sign up for the newsletter. We have a sign up form at http://www.peggyjostudio.net/signup.html

Security BSides Detroit 2012
Business and Professional Event

This event spans the period from 2012-06-01 to 2012-06-02
June 1, 2012 at 8:00 AM - June 2, 2012 at 6:00 PM GM Renaissance Center http://bit.ly/BSidesDetroit BSides Detroit brings the BSides community to a new level and to a place it has never been before: The Destination Conference
Having a destination security conference in Detroit is about bringing people from all over the country to Detroit, to talk about technical and non-technical topics, to educate and advance the industry in a location that doesn't get much in the way of security conferences, but has a relatively large number of IT and security professionals and students who call it home.
Participants. BSides Detroit brings the unconference style to information security meet-ups. BSides is about making a conference of, by, and for the participants. Above all, though, we aim to create community, and to facilitate networking.
Speakers. We like speakers, specifically new and local speakers, not necessarily the people who are all over every other conference. We like content, specifically new and emerging content, and not necessarily the stuff that is all over the media. BSides Detroit is about sharing material frankly, honestly, and directly, for the purpose of informing, educating, and continuing the conversation.
Sponsors. BSides Detroit's structure creates a higher degree of engagement. Sponsoring takes your message beyond the vendor booths. BSides Detroit takes your engagement beyond passing out swag, goodies, and tchotchkes. Our sponsors send technical staff and thought leaders who discuss real world problems and offer practical solutions. Be prepared to be a part of the conference, sharing ideas, meeting people, and interacting with the local community. Be prepared to be blown away by BSides Detroit.
Event Organizer: J Wolfgang Goerlich (Network Operations and Security Manager)

The Bad Seed
Stagecrafters

FRI 2012-06-01
Eight-year-old Rhoda Penmark is sugar and spice and everything nice--except when it comes to murder. When a classmate turns up dead after winning a penmanship award Rhoda coveted, her mother, Christine, begins to suspect her darling little girl has a mean streak of diabolical proportions that could lead to more murder. Originally staged on Broadway as a dramatic thriller, Stagecrafter's version of The Bad Seed skewers the horror genre in this delightfully campy comedy. Director: Kathleen Li

Crocker House Museum Trip

SUN 2012-06-03
Crocker House Museum The first mayor of Mount Clemens, Joshua Dickinson, built this Italianate house in 1869. His daughter Katherine, the great-granddaughter of city founder Christian Clemens, and his son-in-law, George M. Crocker moved into the house after their marriage in 1870. Crocker, a former prosecuting attorney and justice of the peace, became mayor upon Dickinson's death. Mount Clemens was known as the great health and pleasure resort of Michigan. People from all over the world and from all walks of life came to Mount Clemens for the healing powers of mineral baths. A visit will take you back in time to when the Crocker family lived in the home and also offer a glimpse into Mount Clemens' famous Mineral Bath era. Many art pieces are also on display by local artist Franklin Harold Hayward. The museum is open March through December, Tuesday thru Thursday 10 am - 4 pm and the first Sunday of each month 1 - 4 pm, excluding holidays. The homes featured this year contain a number of award winners including: First Place: Interior Use of Tile from Detroit Home 2011 Design Awards, "Residential Beautification Award" from RO Chamber of Commerce and a Featured home in 2011 National Association of the Remodeling Industry Home Tour. In addition, one of the home owners was chosen to be the contractor for a project featured on HGTV's "House Crashers".
