Thoughts About Motherhood

(from an email I received)

Mother's Day no 3 Mother's Day no 4

From Wikipedia

Memorial Day is a United States Federal holiday observed on the last Monday of May (in 2008 on May 26). Formerly known as Decoration Day, it commemorates U.S. men and women who perished while in military service to their country. First enacted to honor Union soldiers of the American Civil War, it was expanded after World War I to include casualties of any war or military action .
Many people observe this holiday by visiting cemeteries and memorials.

The official birthplace of Memorial Day is Waterloo, New York. The village was credited with being the birthplace because it observed the day on May 5, 1866, and each year thereafter, and because it is likely that the friendship of General John Murray, a distinguished citizen of Waterloo, and General John A. Logan, who led the call for the day to be observed each year and helped spread the event nationwide, was a key factor in its growth.

Kids in Cemetary Decoration Day, c. 1900. "You bet I'm goin' to be a soldier,  too, like my Uncle David, when I grow up."

Ceremony for Disposal of Unserviceable Flags

Flag Day, celebrating the adoption of the flag of the
United States by the Second Continental Congress in 1777,
is, as always, on June 14. Many people use that day to retire
US flags that have outlived their service life. The American Legion
has had a Ceremony for Disposal of Unserviceable Flags since 1937.
Many American Legion posts dispose of flags by burial at cemeteries.
The post in Troy has a burning ceremony on the afternoon of the 14th.
They will receive flags through the morning of Flag Day.
Their address is 1340 W, Maple (northeast corner of Maple and Crooks).
The phone number is 248 362-2077.

New Feature: Reunions

We are inviting readers to submit other reunions. They can be college, club, office, church or even family reunions. There is a link to a page where the information can be submitted on the reunions page.

The YR's of Oakland County and Downtown Detroit have added their reunion since the last week.

E-Mails from our Readers

Dear Peggy Jo
The Animal Rescue Site is having trouble getting enough people to click on it daily to meet their quota of getting free food donated every day to abused and neglected animals.
It takes less than a minute (How about 20 seconds) to go to their site and click on the purple box 'fund food for animals' for free.  This doesn't cost you a thing. Their corporate sponsors/advertisers use the number of daily visits to donate food to abandoned/neglected animals in exchange for advertising.

Here's the web site! Pass it along to people  you know. It appears along with sites I click every day.Tell people to look at the other tabs, too. It's free to use.

Dear Peggy Jo,

Thanks for the solution. You were right. When I highlighted the events that had white streaks running through them, They went away.

Dear Peggy Jo,

Once again I received an oft forwarded email warning me about the coming of worst virus that has ever been seen. They warned that CNN reported it and that it would erase the entire hard drive of my computer. They assured me that it had been checked out on snopes and even cited the snopes page. I could tell that the email had already been forwarded many times and I was encouraged to warn all of my friends.

I did go to the Snopes page and read the entire page where it explained that the virus in question was not new It was being packaged with a new subject line. Snopes said that it was an annoying virus but it was not as dangerous as some others being circulated.

People are always complaining about getting too much email but yet they fall for these well-meaning warnings and replicate them to their entire contact list. Please ask your readers to check things out and when they receive an email warning supposedly checked out on Snopes, don't accept it on face value. Ask them to check it out themselves.

Yours truly,
R.L.
