A Good Example for Memorial Day

The term "Shocking Pictures" used in the series of photos (see above) lost some of its meaning because all the photos are not being presented at one time. The commercial press believes in the phrase "if it bleeds, it leads". Certainly The news from Iraq is terrible, but there are some good things happening there and that's what the pictures we've been running are about-The heart warming, caring stuff.

Puppies for Sale

A store owner was tacking a sign above his door that read "Puppies For Sale." Signs like that have a way of attracting small children, and sure enough, a little boy appeared under the store owner's sign. "How much are you going to sell the puppies for?" he asked.

The store owner replied, "Anywhere from $30 to $50."

The little boy reached in his pocket and pulled out some change. "I have $2.37," he said. "Can I please look at them?"

The store owner smiled and opened the kennel and out came the mama dog followed by five teeny, tiny balls of fur.

One puppy was lagging considerably behind. Immediately the little boy singled out the lagging, limping puppy and said, "What's wrong with that little dog?"

The store owner explained that the veterinarian had examined the little puppy and had discovered it didn't have a hip socket. It would always limp. It would always be lame.

The little boy became excited. "That is the puppy that I want to buy."

The store owner said, "No, you don't want to buy that little dog. If you really want him, I'll just give him to you."

The little boy got quite upset. He looked straight into the store owner's eyes, pointing his finger, and said, "I don't want you to give him to me. That little dog is worth every bit as much as all the other dogs and I'll pay full price. In fact, I'll give you $2.37 now, and 50 cents a month until I have him paid for."

The store owner countered, "You really don't want to buy this little dog. He is never going to be able to run and jump and play with you like the other puppies."

To his surprise, the little boy reached down and rolled up his pant leg to reveal a badly twisted, crippled left leg supported by a big metal brace. He looked up at the store owner and softly replied,

"Well, I don't run so well myself, and the little puppy will need someone who understands!"

Commercials

A fifth grade teacher in a Christian school asked her class to look at TV commercials and see if they could use them in some way to communicate ideas about God. Here are some of the results:.

God is like.. BAYER ASPIRIN He works miracles.

God is like... a FORD He's got a better idea.

God is like... COKE He's the real thing.

! (This is great) God is like... HALLMARK CARDS He cares enough to send His very best.

God is like... TIDE He gets the stains out that others leave behind.

God is like... GENERAL ELECTRIC He brings good things to life.

God is like... SEARS He has everything..

God is like... ALKA-SELTZER Try him, you'll like Him

God is like... SCOTCH TAPE You can't see him, but you know He's there.

God is like... DELTA He's ready when you are.

God is like... ALLSTATE You're in good hands with Him.

God is like... VO-5 Hair Spray He holds through all kinds of weather.

God is like... DIAL SOAP Aren't you glad you have Him? Don't you wish everybody did?

(that one is my favorite) God is like... the U.S. POST OFFICE Neither rain, nor snow, nor sleet nor ice will keep Him from His appointed destination.

This new musical intertwines the lives of three New York families with historical figures including Henry Ford, Harry Houdini, J.P. Morgan, and Booker T. Washington in a weaving of fact and fiction. With a score as diverse as America's melting pot, the show draws upon traditional Jewish folk sounds, Vaudevillian compositions, and Joplin and Jazz to capture the soul and sentiment of this turning point in our history.
