Restoring the Grandeur

JOIN US ON JUNE 12 for a gala reception, strolling dinner and auction to support the Detroit Yacht Club Foundation's building preservation and restoration program.

More than three years ago, the DYC Foundation was created with an ambitious agenda: to help restore the grandeur of an iconic Detroit building, one of the most glorious yacht clubhouses in the world.

In 2014 the first significant exterior restoration repair was completed. Thanks to record donations last year, Phase II is already underway on the south face walls, roof and tower. Your participation and attendance at our 2015 Facing Forward Gala on June 12 will enable even more restoration in these areas.

ALL are welcome with tickets ranging from $125 and sponsorship opportunities available. Secure your tickets today to the DYC Reception Desk at 313-824-1200 or by email to info@dycfoundation.com. Cocktail Attire.

Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of malicious behavior. "

Clay, Glass and Metal
Art Show

This event spans the period from 2015-06-13 to 2015-06-14
Clay, Glass and Metal is on 4th St. this year!

The hottest art fair in the region returns to Royal Oak June 13 and 14th. The Royal Oak Chamber of Commerce presents the 21st Annual Clay, Glass & Metal Show. This is the nation's only event dedicated to these three mediums- artwork created from minerals and flame.
This year the show moves to Fourth Street at Main in downtown Royal Oak. The site allows for additional demonstrations and hands on activities while the traditional site is under construction. Visitors love this event, ranking by ArtFair Calendar.com as among the top fifty art fairs nationwide
Jewelry, gifts, decorative art, pottery, beads and architectural pieces from 115 artists will be available for visitors' shopping pleasure. Priced from $10 to $2,000, everyone can find something to their taste at this event, rated as one of the nations' top juried top art shows. The Artists' tents will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
The event has always featured demonstrations and hands on art activities. New this year- patrons will be able to carve in sand and cast a metal sculpture right on site.
Artists include popular locals along with artists from 15 states. Each year 25,000 people come out to shop and visit.
The Community Mosaic Project also returns, with visitors invited to help create the next set of panels. Sponsor, Emagine Entertainment displays these community artworks in their lobby. Participating artists bring in scrap materials which are re-purposed into a vine and floral artwork. Local artists Marcia Hovland and Laurie Eisenhardt, along with guest grouters, complete and frame. In addition, there will be a special kids area, giving children a chance to create their own art and shop for art pieces.
According to Shelly Kemp, Executive Director of the Royal Oak Chamber of Commerce, the event has evolved over the years and is now united by a central concept. "All the art featured at the Show is manipulated by heat and comes from the earth. Fire and Heat make this event unique among art shows as all the art on display is created through this one earth element."

I believe our flag is more than just cloth and ink. It is a universally recognized symbol that stands for liberty, and freedom. It is the history of our nation, and it's marked by the blood of those who died defending it. "
John Thune

SUN. Jun. 14 Events

So remember, it's not just a piece of cloth - it's a symbol of challenge, victory, freedom and pride. It's a reminder of what those who went before us had to do to guarantee our freedoms. The American Flag is, and always will be, one of the most significant symbols of all time. Let's remember that on this Flag Day

MSDA Monthly Dance
Michigan Swing Dance Association

SAT 2015-06-20

Every month, except for July and August, the MSDA holds a kick-ass dance, always on the third Saturday night. Our dance is held at the gorgeous Rhythm -n- Shoes Ballroom Dance Studio in Bloomfield Hills. There are lessons at 7:30 PM and a dance party from 8:30 to 11:15ish PM. The music is California Mix with East and West Coast Swing, Hustle, Ballroom, Latin and Country and our DJ, Steve Plawinski, takes requests. Snacks, dessert and soft drinks are served, plus we give away door prizes to people whose tickets are drawn.

The lesson and dance combo is $12 per person. To be added to the email list so you get notices, please send an email to michiganswingdance@gmail.com.

The MSDA dances are attended by couple and singles alike. For the most part, our members are single and we are always happy to see new members join. The MSDA is like a big, friendly family and we are very comfortable asking each other to dance. In other words, men ask women and women ask men. That's our format.

The Ann Arbor Art Fairs
Art Show

This event spans the period from 2015-07-15 to 2015-07-18
July 15-18* BAFfinalsmallopt
Ann Arbor
The Ann Arbor
Art Fairs
Wed. to Friday, 10 am
to 9 pm
Saturday, 10 am
to 6 pm
never on Sunday

This enticing extravaganza of art is officially divided into four events, listed below. In addition to this, every square foot of outdoor space in this area has been sold to people who did not jury into these four events.

If there is something you have been hankering for, you can find it in Ann Arbor in July. People come from around the country and some shop all four days.

Customers here for the first time are awed by the quantity, the quality and the creativity and vow to return next year. Come to add to your art collection, come to see the best in contemporary art, come to start your collection, you will not be disappointed.

Parking:

The easiest way to avoid the traffic is to head to Briarwood Mall, on I-94, and take the shuttle to the fairs. Or, you can arrive early. There are a lot of parking structures adjacent to the exhibit areas that are full by noon (or sooner). The evenings are also a great time to shop and the nearby parking is easier to find in the downtown.

A new parking alternative: Park downtown easily - 2015 fairgoers can reserve a parking space for an entire day in any of the downtown Republic Parking structures - click here: ParknParty.com

1. The Ann Arbor Street Art Fair
145 Artists On North University, near the Bell Tower

This is the original art fair that started the whole event. Established in 1959, it is highly juried - over 1000 applicants apply for the 190 spaces. The most avant garde work will be exhibited here, as well as many artists who rarely exhibit their work outdoors.

Townie Street Party on Monday night in the Street Fair area, near the Bell Tower.
For more info: www.artfair.org

2. South University Art Fair
200 Artists In the South University shopping district
Held in the area where the Street Fair was originally, this event organized by the local merchants has very high standards and some outstanding artwork. Brown

3. State Street Area Art Fair
330 Artists
This fair, coordinated by the State Street Area merchants, has been around since l963. It is located on Liberty, Thompson and surrounding areas. Often you will find newcomers to the world of art fairs exhibiting here---the stars of tomorrow!

4. Summer Art Fair
Two locations:
250 Artists on Main
and Liberty
200 Artists on
State Street

Organized by the The Guild, an artists organization, this show has the widest range of price levels of any of the Ann Arbor events. Uneven quality, it has some of the best in the show and some of the worst. It is easy to shop on Main Street with nearby parking and a plethora of restaurants.
