The most important thing that a father can do for the children is to love their mother.
Thomas M. Hesburgh

It is easier for a father to have children than for children to have a real father.
Pope John XXIII

Father's Day thoughts

pj and her Father 4 years: My Daddy can do anything!
7 years: My Dad knows a lot, a whole lot.
8 years: My father does not know quite everything.

12 years: Oh well, naturally Father does not know that either.
14 years: Oh, Father? He is hopelessly old fashioned.
21 years: Oh that man- he is out of date!
25 years: He knows a little bit, but not too much.
30 years: I must find out what Dad thinks about.......
50 years: What would Dad have thought about that?
60 years: My Dad knew literally everything!
65 years: I wish I could talk it over with Dad once more.

My father always used to say that when you die, if you've got five friends, then you've had a great life.
Lee Iacocca
Love and fear, Everything the father says must inspire one or the other.

I have never been a material girl. My father always told me never love anything that cannot love you back. Imelda Marcos

If the new American father is bewildered and even defeated, let him take comfort from the fact that whatever he does in any fathering situation he has a fifty percent chance of being right. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TV dinner still cooling? A GREAT SUCCESS

They calculated almost 1,300 physically and mentally challenged individuals and care givers were at the Detroit Yacht Club on a beautiful Saturday, June 9, for the 2007 Crawford-Armstrong outing for a fun day in the sun complete with boat rides, a picnic and a dance.
Hats off to the skippers for taking their boats out on five, six, sometimes seven trips back and forth on the Detroit River. This insured that all the guests had a chance to ride.

People from 67 group homes were invited......the turn out was larger than expected probably due to the wonderful weather and for the first time ever, they ran out of hot dogs, so the DYC stepped up by offering pizza, and then meatball sandwiches.

Next week we will have more details and a slideshow.. Send your electronic photos of the event if you would like them included.

Mary Bishop and Pam Maloney of the DYC co-chaired this year's event. and Sailing Singles supplied some of the volunteers.

The little hut

The only survivor of a shipwreck was washed up on a small, uninhabited island. He prayed feverishly for God to rescue him, and every day he scanned the horizon for help, but none seemed forthcoming. Exhausted, he eventually managed to build a little hut out of driftwood to protect himself from the elements, and to store his few possessions.

One day, after scavenging for food, he arrived home to find his little hut in flames, with smoke rolling up to the sky. The worst had happened, and everything was lost. He was stunned with disbelief, grief, and anger. "God, how could you do this to me?" he cried.

Early the next day he was awakened by the sound of a ship that was approaching the island. It had come to rescue him.

"How did you know I was here?" Asked the weary man of his rescuers. "We saw your smoke signal," they replied.

It's easy to get discouraged when things are going bad, but we shouldn't lose heart, because God is at work in our lives, even in the midst of pain, and suffering.

Remember that the next time your little hut seems to be burning to the ground. It just may be a smoke signal that summons the grace of God.

Hi Peggyjo,
I would be glad to help with this wonderful program especially because I have a handicapped grandson. Unfortunately, the monthly meeting I preside over happens to be on the same day and time..Hope to make it some other time. Thanks to you ,Mary and Suzanne for promoting and serving a great program.
Mike C.
Peggy Jo:
I wish I could help, but with my new job I have been working most Saturdays ... and this Saturday will be no exception. Since I was off work for so long I can't take a chance of the Board of Directiors getting upset with me. Hope you all have a wonderful time it's a very good cause.
Barb
Dear Peggy Jo,
Thank you for providing a place where good things can be publicized. Unfortuanaetyl the Press can't find the room or time to look for these positive things. they are too busy looking for the negative and controversial things. Your newsletter reflects you.
Ralph L.
Loved your great surprise regarding publicity for Fun Day. As always, I can't thank you enough for all your help in making this event a success. People who are 'givers' like yourself are truly a part of God's special family. May HE bless our Fun Day with sunshine and love.
Suzanna
Response: It's your hard work that makes it happen. Thanx back to you
Peggy Jo
WOW Peggy Jo,
I'd be there in a heart beat, I have a special needs son. He's pretty high functioning, but I have a heart for such things. I would be, but I have a class that meets all day and need to get to that. Wish I'dhad more advanced notice. Please do remember me to these folks. I know it would be wonderful. Blessings-- I hope it's a great success for them.
Edie
Hi Peggy Jo, Unfortunately I cannot help this Saturday. I have a family event/wedding that I will be attending. Please keep me in mind for other fund raising events. I enjoy helping out! I have Coordinated, Hosted, Co-Chaired and been on the committee of several charity fund raising events.
~Vicky~
Dear Peggy Jo,
I used to go to Belle Isle every Sunday with my grandparents when I was growing up in Detroit. I used to love the horse/carriage rides, the Merry-Go-Round, and the fountain. Is it still there? I remember that, too. What about the fountain? It used to have different colored lights at night.
Thank you,
Karen
Response:
No carousel or horse and carriage, but they did some work on the old casino where my parents used to go to dance. The Detroit Yacht Club is still lovely come see for yourself. Thanx
Peggy Jo

Peggy Jo,
I would love to do that but have plans this Saturday. Thanks for asking, have a great day
