70 footers on Lake St Clair

The Lake St. Clair water level has risen enough to allow these large sailing ships to once again race there. Scroll down to future events to see the announcement by Bayview Yacht Club.

Something is always going on at the famous corner once the site of Tiger Stadium. This Father's day they will be hosting a special Vintage Base Ball at Navin Field event. Family members who play in clubs from across the State and even Ohio will converge on this historic corner of Michigan and Trumbull to play in a friendly competition of 1860's era ball The Fathers & Grandfathers will be taking on their offspring (both male & female ballists.) Will the "old golds" prevail over the "whippersnappers?" Come out with your own families and find out, and cheer on your favorite generation. (Please share this with your friends and fanily, and help promote this unique event.)

Admission is free. You can donate to get hot dogs and pop and they do have shirts for sale. This is the only source of income for the volunteer group. Bring portable chairs. They do have some picnic tables.

For more information, like "Vintage Base Ball at Navin Field" on Facebook.

The games are the work of The Navin Field Grounds Crew and Michael "Preacher" Copado.

The most noticeable difference between modern and vintage ball is the lack of gloves or protection of any sort. Also balls are pitched underhanded, balls which are caught on one bound or bounce, are considered outs, there is no sliding, bunting,or stealing allowed and rarely are balls and strikes called.
