Sail for Life
Grosse Pointe Sail Club

MON 2011-06-20
Sail for Life 2011 A Dry Regatta! This yearly sailing event is sponsored by the Grosse Pointe Sail Club in conjunction with the Southeastern Michigan Chapter of the American Red Cross in memory of Wally Solak, a long time member of our group who succumbed to multiple myeloma, a blood cancer. The sailors, power boaters and crews who thrive on the competition of racing have joined together to give blood to the Red Cross, an organization which races to the front lines of disasters and personal tragedies daily. Caring sailors, power boaters and their friends can donate blood in the name of their boat or team. Traditional flags will be awarded at our annual fall party to the top three boats or persons who muster the most people to donate in their name. You can call 1-800-GIVELIFE or visit the website www.givelife.org to determine if you are eligible to donate. You can also contribute financially. Your dollars will count towards your boat's or team's efforts in pursuit of a flag. Please register ahead of time to lessen waiting at: 313-821-0776, or on line at www.redcrossblood.org, password: gpsailclub

With subject matters ranging from carpet stains and the demolition of Barbies to life with his schizophrenic brother, solo acoustic performer Dan Hazlett (pronounced HAZE-LETT) songs roam from the outlandish to the sublime. His rich, warm voice and skillful acoustic guitar work make his performances touching, humorous and uplifting. Blending a folky, jazzy style with carefully crafted and thoughtful songwriting, Dan has often been compared to artists like James Taylor and David Wilcox.
