As we celebrate Independence Day, lets also pray for America and its leadership.  We could echo the prayer that was given by Reverend Jacob Duche at the start of the historic proceedings on the second day of the Continental Congress in 1776, "Be Thou present, O God of wisdom, and direct the counsel of this Honorable Assembly, enable them to settle all things on the best and surest foundation..."

He Read Psalm 35.

Rev. Duche' appeared with his clerk and in his pontificals, and read several prayers in the established form, and read ... the 35th Psalm ...
I never saw a greater effect upon an audience. It seemed as if heaven had ordained that Psalm to be read on that morning. ,,,
