Detroit City Football Club

Detroit's Minor League Soccer Team

Le Rouge now the only unbeaten, untied team in the NPSL.

A brutal stretch of five games in ten days has finally concluded for Detroit City FC with a 4 - 0 victory over FC Buffalo in front of a record-setting, 1,895 fans on Sunday.

With the win, City (9-0-0) extended its lead atop the table to six points and picked up a crucial three points in the race for the Rust Belt Derby trophy. Now with nine points in Rust Belt Derby matches, DCFC possess a solidified grip on both the divisional and Rust Belt titles.

It took a moment for Detroit City to get rolling in the first half, as FC Buffalo (7-0-2) garnered persistent pressure on Jeremy Clark (Michigan St.) and his back line. But reminiscent of each game this season, FC Buffalo's opportunities were squandered thanks to the inspired play of eventual Core Power Man of the Match Josh Rogers (Michigan St.) and Lucas Diener (Oakland) in the center. With blocked shot after blocked shot, and stellar positioning on every play, the two were able to anchor the defense en route to Clark's second clean sheet of the season. Filling out the backline were the DCFC regulars Zeke Harris (Michigan), Zach Schewee (Bowling Green St) and Nick Lewin (Michigan).

"We kept the ball well and played a good style, so that's what helps them have less pressure to deal with", said head coach Ben Pirmann. "But when they did get it in transition, Luke Diener and Josh stifled them."

From the 20th minute on, Le Rouge's defensive re-pressure allowed it to create numerous opportunities from both sidelines. At the helm of all that was the speedster, Shawn Claud Lawson (Oakland), who spent the afternoon on both the giving and receiving ends of crafty passes.

The best of those chances came in the 20th minute when the recently-added midfielder Fabio Pereira (Michigan) placed a great through ball to Lawson, who fired a shot off of an FC Buffalo defender and nearly into the right corner of the net. But Buffalo keeper Andrew Coughlin, made a leaping stop to rip it off the goal line and keep the score level. Michigan standout Pereira started in the midfield alongside Latif Alashe (Michigan), Jeff Adkins (Butler) and Kevin Taylor (Michigan). Subbing into the midfield over the course of the match and making major contributions were David Edwardson (Heddon FC, Eng.), Brendan Finnerty (Wheaton) and Miche'li Lipari (Oakland). Also making his DCFC debut was forward Jordan Tyler (Penn St).

As the game progressed, Detroit City's offensive pressure wouldn't let up, and with such high possession in the final third of the field, City was bound to score eventually. It was Grant Chong (Syracuse) who got DCFC on the board in the 32nd minute when he headed a Diener side volley past his collegiate teammate and roommate, Coughlin, for the 1-0 lead. It was the third straight game-winning goal for Chong, who is making a memorable debut with the 2013 Le Rouge.

"It was great (to score on Coughlin)," Chong said. "It was funny. I would have said a few things to him after the game but seeing as we put four in the back of the net, I won't give him too much."

The score line would remain the same until halftime, but Le Rouge would soon pummel FC Buffalo with those three looming goals in the second stanza.

In the 60th minute, Lawson received a cross from Knox Cameron (Michigan/Columbus Crew) and half volleyed a missile into the upper-left corner for what could be labeled as the goal of the season.

With the 2-0 lead, City was well on its way to sending another divisional opponent out of the bowels of Cass Tech Stadium with its head down. But in the last home match until the playoffs, DCFC needed to add a few exclamation points.

Next up, it was Lewin who sent a ball down the right sideline to Austin Oldham (Butler) in the 86th minute. Oldham corralled the ball just outside the right corner of the box and slotted the ball home for a commanding three-goal advantage.

Just three minutes later, off a Lipari corner, a FC Buffalo defender committed an own goal to put a cap on a satisfying afternoon for Detroit soccer fans. Sunday's game was supposed to be much closer, but City might just be that talented.

To say this season has been special thus far would surely be an understatement. Le Rouge just keeps marching over its opponents, quite literally. The defense has allowed just six goals all year, while the offense is simply relentless with 29 goals in nine games. An astounding plus -23 goal differential is still good for top three in the entire National Premier Soccer League (NPSL).

But what matters most is that Detroit City stands as the only squad in the NPSL to win every game on its schedule at this point in the season. In order to post a perfect record in the regular season, Pirmann is preaching consistency and grit the rest of the way.

There's a good buy in, there's a good work rate and then you go from there," Pirmann said. "These guys want to win and they want to win because of those fans. Those lunatics are awesome, and that's why these guys show up and work that hard."

The supporters and faithful will have to wait two weeks to once again fill Cass Tech, as the playoffs won't begin until July 13 and 14. Detroit City will be hosting the four-team, single-elimination tournament that weekend.

Detroit City FC: Clark, Schewee, Diener, Rogers, Harris (Lewin), Taylor (Finnerty), Adkins (Lipari), Alashe (Tyler), Pereira (Oldham), Lawson (Edwardson), Chong (Cameron)

IT in The D: Listen Live
Business and Professional Event

MON 2013-07-08

Metro Detroit Information Technology networking group Detroitnet.org launches "IT in The D" internet radio show.

Detroit's Raw Radio X has added a new, two hour long show to its weekly lineup -- "IT in The D". A lively mix of discussion among the Detroitnet.org co-founders, guest segments and listener calls, "IT in The D" goes beyond the casual networking events and Pink Slip Parties that Detroitnet.org is famous for all over the metro Detroit area that have resulted in more than 500 people finding new jobs.

The authors of more than 200 articles ranging from the "Don't Be That Guy" series instructing people on what not to do to be successful at networking to "The Dating Corollary" series that draws parallels between the reader's personal and professional lives to make the concepts clear and relatable, founders Bob Waltenspiel, David Phillips and Jeff Mackey were attracted to doing an internet radio show because of its ability to interact with listeners in ways that their website and other social media presences cannot.

David Phillips noted "Since we first started running with the name a few years ago, "IT in The D" has been a number of things. We've experimented with it as a conference name, a news aggregation site, and our wildly successful event on 3/13/13 at St Andrews Hall that brought over 700 members of the metro Detroit information technology community together. It's quick, clean and easy to remember, and so using it as the name for our new internet radio show made perfect sense as a next step."

"We're very excited about this new avenue to reach, and help, people in the area," adds Bob Waltenspiel. "With more than 500 people finding new jobs from our events around the area and our speaking engagements at local colleges and through MEDC's Shifting Gears Program, it was clear to us that our message, methods and advice resonate with people and can help them move forward with their job search, their hiring practices, and of course when they're just looking to extend their professional network. We're using "IT in The D" to extend our reach and continue making things better here in the area."

"Our first two shows have launched us right out of the gate with a strong start," says Jeff Mackey. "The guests that we've had in-studio are people actually doing something solid and important for the metro Detroit IT community. Too many people weren't even aware that a hardcore security conference was taking place in downtown Detroit, or that a group started by and focused on women in the metro Detroit IT community providing hands-on training and instruction even existed. Add in a recruiter each week talking about jobs they're looking to fill and taking calls, and you have another way we help make connections and improve things for people."

The "IT in The D" show airs weekly on Monday nights from 9pm to 11pm live from the Raw Radio X studio in downtown Detroit, Michigan.

The Ann Arbor Art Fairs
Art Show

This event spans the period from 2013-07-17 to 2013-07-17
Wed. - Friday, 10 am to 9 pm
Saturday - 10 am to 5 pm
never on Sunday
This enticing extravaganza of art is officially divided into four events, listed below. In addition to this, every square foot of outdoor space in this area has been sold to people who did not jury into these four events. If there is something you have been hankering for, you can find it in Ann Arbor in July. People come from around the country and some shop all four days. Customers here for the first time are awed by the quantity, the quality and the creativity and vow to return next year. Come to add to your art collection, come to see the best in contemporary art, come to start your collection, you will not be disappointed.
Parking: The easiest way to avoid the traffic is to head to Briarwood Mall, on I-94, and take the shuttle to the fairs. Or, you can arrive early. There are a lot of parking structures adjacent to the exhibit areas that are full by noon (or sooner). The evenings are also a great time to shop and the nearby parking is easier to find in the downtown.
1. The Ann Arbor Street Art Fair
190 Artists On North University, near the Bell Tower
This is the original art fair that started the whole event. Established in 1959, it is highly juried - over 1000 applicants apply for the 190 spaces. The most avant garde work will be exhibited here, as well as many artists who rarely exhibit their work outdoors.
Townie Street Party on Monday night in the Street Fair area, near the Bell Tower.
For more info: www.artfair.org

2. South University Art Fair
200 Artists In the South University shopping district Held in the area where the Street Fair was originally, this event organized by the local merchants has very high standards and some outstanding artwork.

3. State Street Area Art Fair
330 Artists
This fair, coordinated by the State Street Area merchants, has been around since l963. It is located on Liberty, Thompson and surrounding areas. Often you will find newcomers to the world of art fairs exhibiting here---the stars of tomorrow!

4. Summer Art Fair
Two locations:
250 Artists on Main & Liberty
200 Artists on State Street
Organized by the The Guild, an artists organization, this show has the widest range of price levels of any of the Ann Arbor events. Uneven quality, it has some of the best in the show and some of the worst. It is easy to shop on Main Street with nearby parking and a plethora of restaurants.
For more info: www.theguild.org

ABOUT THE PLAY: "Waiting for Godot" is an absurdist play by Samuel Beckett, in which two characters, Vladimir and Estragon, wait endlessly and in vain for the arrival of someone named Godot. Godot's absence, as well as numerous other aspects of the play, have led to many different interpretations since the play's premiere, 1940ish. It was voted "the most significant English language play of the 20th century."
