room for dessert. Bruno or one of the other wait-staff will

Cocktail Race Skippers Meeting held on June 8.
The yachts participating in this race will be assigned a rating either by the DRYA(Detroit Regional Yacht-racing Association) or by Commodore Cowles as circumstances dictate. In the case of Dave Bartilson's boat, the DRYA PHRF committee found one other vessel in California that raced at one time and that will be his handicap.
In the photo are Dave Bartilson and Mary Marten displaying the banner that all Cocktail Cruise racers will fly. They will be crewing on Dave's boat for the Inaugural Cocktail Cruise Race. They will join at least 13 other sailing craft for the four races on the way up to Rogers City. A straw poll of the participants indicated that most of them will be continuing up into the North Channel after the race.
To remove any possible chance of controversy, Commodore Cowles announced that there would be no Protest Committee. There is a photo of some of the attendees here
The first leg of the race will end at Harbor Beach where the participants will have supper, bed down for the night and be ready start again on Sunday morning. Points will be awarded to yachts according to their corrected time for that day. The lowest corrected time will get 1 point and the second 2 and so on.
The second leg will finish at Harrisville on Sunday and points will be awarded in the same manner.
On Monday the fleet will finish at Presque Isle and on Tuesday at Rogers City where the points for all legs will be totaled and the Yacht with the lowest point total will be named the overall winner.
Tell all of your sailor friends about this event. Pass it on. This is something new .
Skippers, call Bob Cowles (313-822-0996) even if you are just remotely interested. Leave a message with your phone number and/or your email address . Some of the boats registering might need crew. If interested contact Bob Cowles.
He is taking applications and one can get that information by clicking on the Race Registration Documents link. The Word files do not always translate well to the WordPress blogs, so you can also get copies by calling Commodore Bob Cowles at the number above.
In fact, most melons are rich in potassium, a nutrient that may help control blood pressure, regulate heart beat, and possibly prevent strokes. The 2005 Dietary Guidelines state that a potassium-rich diet helps keep salt from raising blood pressure and may also reduce the risk of developing kidney stones and possibly age-related bone loss. The guidelines encourage adults to consume 4,700 milligrams per day (while keeping sodium to less than 2,300 milligrams per day, which is one teaspoon of salt).
Watermelon has lycopene, which can help reduce the risk of several cancers.
Melons are also abundant in vitamin C, one arm of the now-famous disease-fighting antioxidant trio. Another arm that's well represented is beta-carotene.
Researchers believe that beta-carotene and vitamin C are capable of preventing heart disease, cancer, and other chronic conditions. No matter which way you cut them, when it comes to nutrition, melons are number one.
