Why the Mustache ?

The Detroit Institute of Arts says any visitor who wears a mustache — real or fake — will receive free admission to the museum Aug. 3-5. It’s part of a promotion for the exhibit “Five Spanish Masterpieces,” currently on view at the DIA. The exhibit includes the painting “Soft Construction with Boiled Beans” by mustached Spanish painter Salvador Dali. For more, call 313-833-7962 or go to www.dia.org

This air show is unique. Its main focus is WWII aircraft. People come from all over the country to fly their planes. And you also have the opportunity to look inside and go through the planes and talk to the pilots. The Blue Angels also fly around 4:00 or 4:30 PM. In addition to the air show there also is a ground show, a WWII reenactment of a ground battle with actual WWII German and American equipment. Korean and Vietnam war aircraft are also on display. Gates open at 8:00 AM and you can begin seeing all the aircraft and equipment, talking to pilots and reenactment people and of course purchase memorabilia. The air and ground show starts at 12:00 PM. Tickets at the gate are $35 ($25 if purchased in advance) and parking is $10. Contact us for more information and to arrange a time to meet up with him. 586-263-7285
