Warning: concerning plastic bagged salads

NBC Dateline did a documentary on cut-up lettuce and spinach packaged in plastic bags. They took us through the whole process and talked about how the Ecoli bacteria is now showing up in the salad mix in bags. They don't know yet how the Ecoli got in, but they do know that deaths and serious sicknesses are occurring in many states.

One woman told about how her child was near death from the lettuce and was sick for a long time. They warned us not to buy any bag salads until they find out from the investigation what is causing this contamination.

The Dole Company has recalled their bags. See the link below. htt p://

The Holy Alphabet

Although things are not perfect
Because of trial or pain
Continue in thanksgiving
Do not begin to blame
Even when the times are hard
Fierce winds are bound to blow
God is forever able
Hold on to what you know
Imagine life without His love
Joy would cease to be
Keep thanking Him for all the things
Love imparts to thee
Move out of "Camp Complaining"
No weapon that is known
On earth can yield the power
Praise can do alone
Quit looking at the future
Redeem the time at hand
Start every day with worship
To "thank" is a command
Until we see Him coming
Victorious in the sky
We'll run the race with gratitude
X alting God most high
Y es, there'll be good times and yes some will be bad, but..
Z ion waits in glory...where none are ever sad!

"I AM Too blessed to be stressed!" The shortest distance between a problem and a solution is the distance between your knees and the floor. The one who kneels to the Lord can stand up to anything. Love and peace be with you forever, Amen.

Homemaking Tips

*Martha's Way* *Maxine's Way *
Stuff a miniature marshmallow in the bottom of a sugar cone to prevent ice cream drips. Just suck the ice cream out of the bottom of the cone, for Pete's sake! You are probably lying on the couch with your feet up eating it, anyway!
To keep potatoes from budding, place an apple in the bag with the potatoes. Buy Hungry Jack mashed potato mix, keep it in the pantry for up to a year.
When a cake recipe calls for flouring the baking pan, use a bit of the dry cake mix instead and there won't be any white mess on the outside of the cake. Go to the bakery! They'll even decorate it for you.
If you accidentally oversalt a dish while it's still cooking, drop in a peeled potato and it will absorb the excess salt for an instant "fix-me-up." If you oversalt a dish while you are cooking, that's too bad. Please recite with me the real woman's motto: "I made it and you will eat it and I don't care how bad it tastes!"

Wrap celery in aluminum foil when putting in the refrigerator and it will keep for weeks. Celery? Never heard of it!

Brush some beaten egg white over pie crust before baking to yield a beautiful glossy finish. The Mrs. Smith frozen pie directions do not include brushing egg whites over the crust so I don't.

Cure for headaches: take a lime, cut it in half and rub it on your forehead. The throbbing will go away. Take a lime, mix it with tequila, chill and drink!
If you have a problem opening jars, try using latex dishwashing gloves. They give a non-slip grip that makes opening jars easy. Go ask that very cute neighbor if he can open it for you.

Don't throw out all that leftover wine. Freeze into ice cubes for future use in casseroles and sauces. Leftover wine??????????? HELLO !!!!!!!

  • Concours d'Elegance Sun Jul 30 to Sun Aug 6
  • The Meadow Brook Concours d'Elegance is considered to be one of the most prestigious events of its kind in the world. Held on the grounds of Oakland University’s historic Meadow Brook Hall, it is the perfect setting for this elegant and world renowned event. The 28th annual Meadow Brook Concours d'Elegance culminates a week-long celebration of automotive history and heritage beginning on Sunday, July 30th, and ends with the "main event" on Sunday, August 6th, 2006. This year the Meadow Brook Concours d’Elegance will feature the Golden Era Classics of pre-World War II, and its featured automotive artist is François Bruère.

More than 10,000 people attend each year to experience the beauty of the art, and the styling and sophistication of approximately 250 of the world’s finest antique and classic automobiles displayed in a lavish outdoor exhibition. Collector car aficionados looking to recapture the indomitable spirit of the early years of the automobile will find just that at the 28th annual Meadow Brook Concours d’Elegance.

"Each year the Concours at Meadow Brook becomes more spectacular, and our ultimate aim is to make it the best collector car show in the world,” said Lolly Bezy, the event’s executive director. “And thanks to the many sponsors and supporters, we’ve been able to add events and features to create a Concours Week that really does offer ‘something for everyone.’”

The Meadow Brook Concours d’Elegance collector car show and its art auction raises money to help with the preservation efforts at Meadow Brook Hall. Over the years, the Concours d’Elegance has raised and contributed more than $5,000,000 to the preservation of the mansion; the former home of Matilda Dodge Wilson, the widow of John Dodge and wife of lumber baron Alfred Wilson, which has been a trademark of American automotive history.

Tickets for the main event may be purchased in advance through July 31st here, at the Meadow Brook Concours d’Elegance offices, or by phone at (248) 269-7672.

Now, imagine that the connection we made can't be shut down. When you turn on your cell phone or log on to your e-mail, they'll get in, you'll be infected and they'll be able to take from you what they don't have anymore - life.

The movie is scheduled to be released the weekend August 25 however it has been delayed several times before.

Let's get together on Sunday August 27 or possibly on Thursday August 24 for a mini-premier. We think it will be at the Palladium in Birmingham Sign up here and we will keep you informed.
