Health Benefits of Premium Loose Tea

By: Phuong Le , Co-Founder and CEO of ONO Tea ( Michigan based Organic tea company).
Start taking care of your health with a delicious cup of loose tea.  Premium loose tea contains high levels of antioxidants, some of which are called polyphenols, flavonoids, and catechins. Freshly brewed loose teas have more of these antioxidants than bagged or bottled teas. The antioxidant activity of tea is more powerful than that found in most fruits and vegetables. The American Health Foundation recommends 5-6 cups daily for the following reasons :

  • Contains high levels of cancer fighting anti-oxidants
  • Reduces the risk of gastric, esophageal and skin cancers
  • 2 cups of loose tea may lower the risk of ovarian cancer
  • Polyphenols help prevent blood clotting and lower cholesterol levels
  • Effective for slimming and weight loss
  • Fights degenerative diseases and supports immune system function
  • Black tea helps prevent plaque build-up in the arteries
  • Fights bad breath
  • Promotes mental clarity and alertness
  • Provides sustained energy, no jolt and crash
  • Detoxifying and longevity promoting beverage

In America, just about 90 percent of folks brew their tea by tea bag and remain unaware of the true way tea is meant to be enjoyed. Even drinking white and green teas that are in iced tea form in bottles sold in stores does not provide the same taste and benefits. The reason is because tea bags consist of fannings (or tea dust) which happens to be the lowest grading of tea. All the natural oils and nutrients that give us that great flavor and health benefits are in little abundance in these dried up tea particles. Even with a larger tea bag, the tea doesn't have enough room to move around to release its full flavor. And as for the chilled teas in bottles, well, they are loaded with sugar so noticing the true taste of the tea is hard.

Steeping tea using whole loose leaves brings out a whole new beverage loaded with more healthy benefits and much more flavor since these leaves still have most of their oils. Loose leaf tea is the way to go, it offers more varieties and drinking pleasure over any tea bag! Plus, it more economical than a tea bag.  A 2oz bag gives you up to 80 cups of tea (with 3 infusions). That is an average of 12 cents per cup.
Enjoy your loose tea!

Claymore shop

In the August 14-20, 2008 Edition of the Detroit Jewish News there was a article by Alan Hitsky the Associate Editor. The article's head line was "The Singing Hotdog Man takes his noteriety to the grocers' shelves" .

The article told the story of Charley's development of his new mustard where he found a 70 year old mustard firm to produce the product, found an artist who designed his label and he is now busy doing his own distributing. He sold over 1,200 bottles in one month.

Among charley's stores are Westborn Market, Hillers, Papa Joes and of course The Claymore Shop where Charley has worked for the past 10 years. Other stores are listed here .

Got Mustard ??? Campaign

Now Famous in Houston, Texas Therese Campbell, a former member of Sailing Singles, left Detroit for Houston to secure employment as did Shane Battier, last weeks "now famous person". She reads the Peggy Jo Studio newsletter to keep up with the things that are going on up here. Her family is strill in the Detroit area.

The link below will take you to a web site that shows all of the 466 volunteers. (At publication time, we still have photos that have not been processed)
If you haven't visited the "Got Mustard Gallery" click on the large word 'here' below. If you have, visit it again because we are adding new faces all the time.
Take some time to view the show and if you see someone you know, call them and tell them that they are famous. You can view that show at or you can try clicking here. If that doesn’t work, try a right click and select "open in a separate tab" from the drop down list. If all else fails enter the address in your browser address box. The slide show changes from day to day as we add new people to the list. The show has sound, so keep your speakers turned on!

In the next issue we will feature one of the other volunteers, selected at random.. If you would like to join the fun, send your electronic photo to (.jpg is preferred. ) We will supply the digital mustard.

[Editors note: We are also working on a method where people can find their picture on the slide show without going through all of the photos and we will give you the instructions when we figure out what they are]

E-Mails from our Readers

Hi Peggy Jo,
Would you mind posting this to your news letter?  We've [Sole Sisters] been nominated for best shoe store again this year.  We won last year.!  Sure could use any assistance in getting the word out.  Thanks so much.

This a repeat, but it merits another look.

Dear Peggy Jo
May have found the problem with the newsletter [not getting through to comcast subscribers]
The newsletter is actually mailed from

I have an address for - but I am thinking that
comcast is looking for the .ccsend. before the .com and not finding it.
I reset the comcast to filter the spam - as the techie that was here today said to do.
He said that any address that was in my address book would  not be considered spam.
That tells me that comcast is looking for the .ccsend. and not finding it - so it kicked it out as spam.
I have added the address with the .ccsend to my address book.

Thanks for your input. I hope other comcast readers will do the same.

Peggy Jo

Beth Shalom Presents Neshama Carlebach

Week end of 2008-09-12
Congregation Beth Shalom Presents Neshama Carlebach Oak Park, MI. Neshama Carlebach, daughter of the late revered Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach, will make a rare Detroit area appearance September 12-14 leading a Soul of Carlebach weekend at Congregation Beth Shalom in Oak Park, Michigan.

The weekend begins Friday night at 6 p.m. with a family dinner and a special Carlebach Kabbalat Shabbat service where Neshama will speak and sing. On Saturday, following religious services where she will speak, Neshama will share stories of her father at a Lunch and Learn. The highlight of the weekend will be Sunday afternoon at 4 p.m. when Neshama performs in Beth Shalom’s annual Cantor Sam and Mona Greenbaum Concert. There will also be a special Saturday night private patron event for Patron-level sponsors of the Greenbaum Concert. All events are open to the community.

Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach changed the face of Jewish music, and his songs have inspired Jewish congregations around the world. He is considered by many to be the foremost Jewish religious songwriter in the second half of the 20th century. In a career that spanned over 30 years, he recorded more than 25 albums that continue to have wide popularity and appeal. His influence continues to this day, in part through his daughter, Neshama. Neshama continues her father’s legacy with a deep spirituality and charisma that draws audiences wherever she performs. She sings not only her father’s music, but her own original songs as well.
