The story behind this week's photo

Ella of Lips

During Peggy Jo's visit to "Arts, Beats and Eats" she found her favorite booth provided by Ella Isaac (in the phot on the left), a hat designer from Philadephia, Pennsylvania. She could only be coaxed away from the booth by a promise of an Ice cream cone at Baskin and Robbins.

Lips has a website at www.lipshats.com They do take internet orders

Ella's hats are carried by Ki's and Jul's in Oak Park, Mi at 1614 Church St. Phone: (313) 342-1700

Doctor transmits surgery via Google Glass

Physician uses Google Glass

Google Glass has a frame similar to traditional glasses, but instead of lenses, there is a small glass block that sits above the right eye. On that glass is a computer screen that, with a simple voice command, allows users to pull up information as they would on any other computer. Attached to the front of the device is a camera that offers a point-of-view image and the ability to take both photos and videos while the device is worn.

During the procedure at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, Kaeding wore the device as he performed ACL surgery.

Emails from our readers

Dear Peggy Jo,

I have an old computer powered by a "286" processor. I believe that the video card has failed. I do no not want to get a "windows computer" and certainly not an Apple. I am looking for a replacement video card from a similiar computer or an old but functioning computer that I could transfer my files to. I do not want to get dragged into the current century. This could be a very hard request to fill.

Do you know anyone that can help?

Yours truly,

Larry

Blue Water Ski Club Meeting
Metropolitan Detroit Ski Council

WED 2013-09-04

Blue Water International Ski Club

Port Huron, MI & Sarnia, ONTARIO

The Blue Water International Ski Club has over a hundred members who all share a love of travel and outdoor adventure. The club plans and facilitates at least two trips every year. In the past few seasons we've skied; Vail and Aspen/Snowmass, Colorado; Moonlight Basin, Montana; Jackson Hole, Wyoming; Whistler and Panorama, British Columbia; Killington, Vermont and Sugerloaf, Maine just to name a few. Because we travel as a club we enjoy reduced rates on airfare, lift tickets and condo fees, so our trips are reasonable and affordable. Every level of skier is welcome as we have members who ski the easy runs as well as those who take on the aggressive slopes. New members will find that we double as a social club with fun, interactive meetings and events such as BBQ's, golf outings and sailing get togethers planned year round. This is a great place for couples and singles to meet new people and make new friends.

Rom Joe Bologna Trattoria
GM Ski Club

FRI 2013-09-06

The best Italian food to be found anywhere is right here in our own back yard. This place has been around 20 years, for good reason. Warm welcoming bar, dining area expanded with more of the old-style church pew booths for privacy and comfort. The best thing is the great Italian food, served fresh and hot, and that's a change from before. Great marinara and bolognese sauces for the bubbly baked lasagna and casalinga. Oodles of garlic for the chicken capellini trattoria, fresh vegetables and bread, etc. Very local, very homey, but top notch too. Reasonably priced wine list and friendly, attentive service. Relaxing sit-down inside for full enjoyment of what this place offers.

Mobilizing Education
Business and Professional Event

MON 2013-09-09

Mobile technology is on the minds of education professionals now more than ever before; but those education professionals are involved in a variety of education sectors, including:

  • k-12
  • higher education
  • business education
  • self-education service providers.

It's a big topic, with far-reaching implications for our children - their current education and their future careers, our businesses and ourselves. To help gain an understanding of the topic, Mobile Monday Detroit is presenting Michigan-based experts to provide us with a wide range of perspectives on the topic of 'Mobilizing Education'.

Speakers and their areas of focus will include:

Elaina Farnsworth of Mobile Comply

Christian Marcillo and Glen Konopaskie of Future Help Designs Who will jointly be presenting a case study which showcases how these firms are working together to bring technology, curriculum content, and stakeholders to the table to move the needle in how education is approached from an interactive classroom.

Lisa Toenniges and Matt Kurtin of Innovative Learning Group

Who will discuss how learning technologies are providing new opportunities for learning and performance support and will identify technology-based solutions to fulfill performance needs using a standard performance improvement model, as well as providing several examples of performance improvement solutions successfully using today's new technologies.

Jeff Muglia and Dave Zabihaylo of Sprint
