" If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. "
2 Chronicles 7:14

September 11, 2011

Sunday will be the tenth anniversary of the attack on America and I think you might be interested in what I thought back then. The following is the text from my home page.

The brief change in America following the tragedy of 9/11/01 was profound. Suddenly, people were realizing the inappropriateness of the violence and sexuality in movies and on TV. Comedians who had previously made fun of people were now edifying them. The curbing of excessive celebration of entertainment as shown by the re-scheduling of the Emmy awards was refreshing. People were openly praying for our country and for one another. The American flag was being displayed everywhere.

I wanted to do a painting to commemorate all this. I knew I wanted to write on it the scripture that said: "For he shall give his angels charge over thee". So I created an angel dressed in red, white, and blue and holding the world. But I had momentarily forgotten exactly where the verse was located in the Bible. I looked it up and discovered it was part of one of my favorite psalms, not mentally registering its number at the time. I was very tempted to incorporate the verses surrounding it but somehow I limited myself to just the original scripture I had in mind.

people who know me, know that I'm the type of person who looks in the mirror and puts one more accessory on, while most people look in the mirror and take one thing off, so not elaborating with more verses was surprising---I got chills when I realized that the scripture I had been led not to add any verses to was Psalm 91:11. Truly this artwork must have been supernaturally inspired.

Many advisors have suggested that I change my homepage to keep the web site fresh but I feel that keeping the memory of 9/11 fresh is more important. Time has a way of dimming our focus. You can see the homepage and the painting by clicking here

Emails from our Readers

Dear Peggy Jo,
Please ask your readers to join us in this FLY THE FLAG campaign and ask them PLEASE forward this email to their friends and family asking them to also forward it. We have less than a week to get the word out all across this great land and into every community in the United States of America .

THE PROGRAM:

On Sunday, September 11th, 2011, an American flag should be displayed outside every home, apartment, office, and store in the United States . Every individual should make it their duty to display an American flag on this tenth anniversary of one our country's worst tragedies. We do this honor of those who lost their lives on 9/11, their families, friends and loved ones who continue to endure the pain, and those who today are fighting at home and abroad to preserve our cherished freedoms.

In the days, weeks and months following 9/11, our country was bathed in American flags as citizens mourned the incredible losses and stood shoulder-to-shoulder against terrorism. Sadly, those flags have all but disappeared. Our patriotism pulled us through some tough times and it shouldn't take another attack to galvanize us in solidarity. Our American flag is the fabric of our country and together we can prevail over terrorism of all kinds

Action Plan

So, here's what we need you to do ---
(1) Forward this email to everyone you know. Take a moment to think back to how you felt on 9/11 and let those sentiments guide you.
(2) Fly an American flag of any size on 9/11. Honestly, Americans should fly the flag year-round, but if you don't, then at least make it a priority on this day.
Thank you for your participation. God Bless You and God Bless America

Doug

" Now, we have inscribed a new memory alongside those others. It's a memory of tragedy and shock, of loss and mourning. But not only of loss and mourning. It's also a memory of bravery and self-sacrifice, and the love that lays down its life for a friendeven a friend whose name it never knew. "
- President George W. Bush, December 11, 2001

" Today, we gather to be reassured that God hears the lamenting and bitter weeping of Mother America because so many of her children are no more. Let us now seek that assurance in prayer for the healing of our grief stricken hearts, for the souls and sacred memory of those who have been lost. Let us also pray for divine wisdom as our leaders consider the necessary actions for national security, wisdom of the grace of God that as we act, we not become the evil we deplore."
