Greetings!

"For He shall give his angels charge over thee"

Psalm 91.11

This day inspired me to paint this Angel with the following explanation.

911 Angel

The brief change in America following the tragedy of 9/11/01 was profound. Suddenly, people were realizing the inappropriateness of the violence and sexuality in movies and on TV. Comedians who had previously made fun of people were now edifying them. The curbing of excessive celebration of entertainment as shown by the re-scheduling of the Emmy awards was refreshing. People were openly praying for our country and for one another. The American flag was being displayed everywhere.

I wanted to do a painting to commemorate all this. I knew I wanted to write on it the scripture that said: "For he shall give his angels charge over thee". So I created an angel dressed in red, white, and blue and holding the world. But I had momentarily forgotten exactly where the verse was located in the Bible. I looked it up and discovered it was part of one of my favorite psalms, not mentally registering its number at the time. I was very tempted to incorporate the verses surrounding it but somehow I limited myself to just the original scripture I had in mind.

people who know me, know that I’m the type of person who looks in the mirror and puts one more accessory on, while most people look in the mirror and take one thing off, so not elaborating with more verses was surprising-I got chills when I realized that the scripture I had been led not to add any verses to was Psalm 91.11. Truly this artwork must have been supernaturally inspired.

This annual clean-up is sponsored by the Clinton River Watershed Council and the Anchor Bay Yachting Association, of which Sailing Singles is a member. We'd like to let both know how many Sailing Singles members are lending a hand on Sept. 17th.

Everything from plastic and paper wrappers to logs and fallen trees are tackled to remove waterway obstructions for canoers and kayakers, and downriver and in the lake, larger boats.

  • Moonlight Sail Sat Sept 17
  • From the Sailing Singles Anchor Line:

Let's end our summer cruising activities with a wonderful moonlight sail. We have plenty of boats signed up, so everyone plan to attend.

We will meet at the Gazebo on "A" Dock at Jefferson Beach Marina between 9 and 10 Mile on Jefferson. Bring a quality dish to pass for a great dinner at 6:30. Afterwards we will go out on the lake to view the sensational moonrise.

All the skippers at JBM will sail. Other power and sail boats will come in for the evening. Still other skippers will drive in so you can carpool back to their boats for the journey.

Potential crewmembers may contact skippers to prearrange a place on a boat, or you may just show up, and we will make boat assignments there. Skippers with whom I have not spoken please call me to confirm your participation.

Let me conclude by thanking all the chairpeople and their committee members for their help in making 2005 a successful Rendezvous season.

    Your fleet captain,
    Jim Steigelman
