This Week's Now Famous Person and Alter-Ego

CD and BrianCD and Brian Bosman are now famous for appearing in the "Got Mustard Campaign"

They are also famous for appearing at many club dances and social events. Brian not only plays the keyboard he also sings. CD is well known for bestowing a kiss to some lucky person on special occasions.
So when you see or contact Brian be sure to tell him you saw him in the Peggy Jo Studio Newsletter. You can see the other hundreds of people by clicking on the underlined words above.

You can browse rather than wait to see a particular photo with the "digital mustard" on the upper lip. Just replace the phrase in the section box with a first name and delete any other text in the box. Then only the slides that contain that name are displayed.

If you had your photo taken and can't find it in the slide show please send us an email. If you would like to send a photo to be included, send it to webmaster@peggyjostudio.net. We will supply the "digital mustard".

Congratulations Brian and CD!!

Sir Winston Who?

From an eMail I received.

Here’s a story that I think you’ll like. It involves a bit of sleuthing with an unexpected discovery.

A couple of weeks ago I picked up a book by Winston Churchill called "The Crisis". The American Winston ChurchillI didn’t know anything about it, except I supposed it was about the events leading up to one of the world wars. When I noticed that it was published in 1901, I figured it was about some forgotten contretemps between France and Germany, somehow involving England, between the Franco-Prussian War and World War I.

I was somewhat perplexed, then, when the book opened on the Mississippi River and soon located itself in Saint Louis, MO. When the war involved turned out to be the American Civil War, I knew something was wrong with my assumptions.

The "disambiguation"  link in Wikipedia cleared things up. There really is quite a bit of similarity between whom I now call "The Two Winston Churchills". The American is in the picture.

From Wikipedia - Winston Churchill (novelist):

Confusion with the British statesman

Churchill met and occasionally communicated with his namesake, the British statesman and author Winston Churchill (no known relation). It was the American Churchill who became famous earlier, and in the 1890s he was much better known than his British namesake. The two are still occasionally confused, although the British Churchill wrote only one novel, being better known for his popular histories and journalism.

Both Churchills had political careers, and were both noted amateur painters. The similarities extend to their tertiary education; both attended service colleges and briefly served simultaneously as officers in their respective countries' armed forces.

The British Churchill, upon becoming aware of his namesake's books, wrote to him suggesting that he would sign his own works "Winston S. Churchill", using his middle name, "Spencer", to differentiate them. This suggestion was accepted, with the comment that the American Churchill would have done the same, had he any middle names.

Jewish laundry in Chinatown!

From another eMail I received.

Walking through San Francisco's Chinatown, a tourist from the Midwest was enjoying the artistry of all the Chinese restaurants, shops, signs and banners when he turned a corner and saw a building with the sign "Moshe Plotnik's Laundry."

"Moshe Plotnik?" he wondered.  "How does that belong in Chinatown?" He walked into the shop and saw a fairly standard looking dry cleaner, although he could see that the proprietors were clearly aware of the uniqueness of the store name as there were baseball hats, T-shirts and coffee mugs emblazoned with the logo "Moshe Plotnik's Chinese Laundry."

The tourist selected a coffee cup as a conversation piece to take back to his office.  Behind the counter was a smiling old Chinese gentleman who thanked him for his purchase.

The tourist asked, "Can you explain how this place got a name like 'Moshe Plotnik's Laundry’?”

The old man answered, "Ah---Evleebody ask me that. It name of owner."

Looking around, the tourist asked, "Is he here?"

"It me," replies the old man.

"Really? You're Chinese. How did you ever get a name like Moshe Plotnik?"

"Is simple," said the old man. "Many, many year ago I come to this country. I standing in line at 'Documentation Center of Immigration.' Man in front of me was Jewish man from Poland. Lady at counter look at him and say, "What your name?" He say, "Moshe Plotnik."

Then she look at me and say, "What's your name?"
I say, "Sam Ting."

This bears repeating .

Peggy Jo

Hi Peggy Jo,

Would you please share the good news to members of SS and SS&G in that I am one of only 10 artists in the entire U.S. and Canada to be invited by Japanese promoters to exhibit in the first Yokohama International Art Exhibit in Tokyo, Japan.  I will be leaving October 14 and returning November 8, and hope to visit Hiroshima while there.
I was also asked to demonstrate my painting techniques at the fair.  The promoters are shipping my work and paying for my flight, so it was kind of hard to say no.  The promoters saw my work at the Ann Arbor Street Fair last year, and we have been working out all the details. Approximately 40 paintings will be shipped.  I do speak some Japanese since I was in Kyoto a few years ago, but will have to brush up on it even though they are providing me with an interpreter during the show only.

Also, I did receive 2nd place in the Professional Fine Art Exhibit at the Michigan State Fair and one of my adult students,  Rhen Bryant, received 4th place in the Amateur Division along with 4 other students taking awards. They were elated.

Shirl Hathaway

Congratulations Shirley and Rhen. It's great news. Happy to share it with the PJSN readers.

Pink Rose Inspirational Foundation, Inc. The Pink Rose Inspirational Foundation, Inc. was founded by Nicholas Pyykkonen after he lost two aunts to breast cancer and watched his mother experience the effects of the same disease. His Aunt Kathy, an inspiration, lost her battle on April 21, 2005 and his mother was diagnosed on March 17, 2006. Two sisters, best friends in life, both outstanding teachers, daughters, wives, mothers and aunts. The youngest of three girls, Nick's mom has taken care of her entire family after they were diagnosed. Nick's grandfather lost his battle to prostate cancer and his grandmother, continues to fight metastasized colon cancer. Wanting to do something to stop this "beast" from invading the lives of other families, Nick launched the Pink Rose Inspirational Foundation in October, 2007 and Incorporated in July 2008.

The foundation is a non-profit organization and all donations are greatly appreciated. The Pink Rose Inspirational Foundation is focused on helping to find a cure for this cruel disease. Please feel free to contact us at anytime. We offer support to families in need and understand this journey.
