God Bless America-Happy Columbus Day!!

From Wikipedia

Columbus celebrations commemorate the Genoese explorer's first expedition across the Atlantic Ocean in 1492. Columbus, on commission by the Spanish monarchy, was hoping to find a new naval route to India and the other nations of the East, but instead found the American continent which was virtually unknown to Europeans at the time. Columbus's sailor Rodrigo de Triana was the first on the voyage to spot land in the New World; he found the island the natives called Guanahani at approximately 2:00 AM on October 12, 1492. The exact location of this island is unknown, though it was somewhere in the Bahamas. Columbus's expedition launched the first large-scale European colonization of the Americas.

Columbus Day
The first recorded celebration honoring the discovery of America by Europeans took place on October 12, 1792 in New York City. The event, which celebrated the 300th anniversary of Columbus' landing in the New World, was organized by The Society of St. Tammany (also known as the Columbian Order).
San Francisco's Italian community held their first Columbus Day celebration in 1869. In 1892, President Benjamin Harrison urged citizens to participate in the the 400th anniversary celebration of Columbus' first voyage. It was during this event that the Pledge of Allegiance, written by Francis Bellamy, was recited publically for the first time.
Colorado was the first state to observe the holiday in 1905.
In 1937, President Roosevelt proclaimed October 12 as "Columbus Day" and in 1971, President Nixon declared the second Monday of October a national holiday.

This Weeks Now Famous Person

George from the Farmer's MarketMaria is now famous because she is appearing in the "Got Mustard Campaign" .Maria is one half of Saxappeal a very popular band. She and David are well recieved by many of the Yacht Clubs and Sailing Singles. They will be at Peabodys in Birmingham on Friday October 24. Get there early and have supper and when you see her at nine be sure to tell her you've seen her in the "Got Mustard" campaign. You can see the other 500 plus people by clicking on the underlined words above.

There are over 520 people who have volunteered to participate and we have found it necessary to change the way the slide show runs so that people can browse rather than wait to see their photo with the "digital mustard" on their upper lip. One can replace the phrase in the section box with their first name and deleting any other text in the box. Then only the slides that contain that name are displayed.

If you had your photo taken and can't find it in the slide show please send us an email. If you would like to send a photo to be included, send it to webmaster@peggyjostudio.net. We will supply the "digital mustard".

Congratulations Maria
