Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Love,Love,love this- u will too

from Melinda on Facebook elepant Click here for video

October is also Domestic Awareness Month

In the U.S., call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-7233 (SAFE).

Domestic violence and abuse are used for one purpose and one purpose only: to gain and maintain total control over you. An abuser doesn’t “play fair.” Abusers use fear, guilt, shame, and intimidation to wear you down and keep you under his  thumb. Your abuser may also threaten you, hurt you, or hurt those around you.

What Is Physical Abuse?

Physical abuse consists of anything one person does to another that causes physical pain. This includes slapping, pinching, punching, pushing, throwing objects at another person, assaulting someone with an object or anything that brings about physical pain or discomfort to another. Physical abuse can result in bruises, black eyes, knocked out teeth, broken bones, internal organ injuries, miscarriage, brain concussions, and even death.

MON. Oct. 24 Events

United Nations United Nations Day isn't solely an American holiday but a holiday celebrating all of the peoples that came together to form the United Nations. It was the United Nations General Assembly that established the holiday in 1948. The date set for the holiday is October 24th, the same day that the United Nations Charter was adopted in 1945.
United Nations Day is just one of the events that take place during United Nations Week which runs every year from October 20-24th. United Nations Day isn't just a holiday to celebrate the beginning of the organization. Its purpose is more to uphold what the United Nations stands for; international economical development, security, social progress, human rights and world peace. Though none of the dozens of UN member states are required to recognize the holiday, the General Assembly did request it in 1971. Since 1946, even before its official inception, every year the U.S. President has proclaimed a United Nations Day. There are also various learning institutions and international schools across the world that recognize and celebrate United Nations Day as a day to show pride in their cultural diversity.

Royal Oak Woman\'s Club Meets
Royal Oak Woman's Club

Reserve by 2011-11-02 for MON 2011-11-07
On Monday evening, November 7, the Royal Oak Woman's Club will meet at their clubhouse at 404 S. Pleasant Street, corner of Fourth, in Royal Oak. The meeting will begin at 7 pm and will feature speaker Cheryl Whitton, President of the Michigan Advisory Board for Blessings in a Backpack. The meeting is open to all, but please make a reservation as noted at the bottom of this article. Blessings in a Backpack is a non-profit organization which is dedicated to helping meet the nutritional needs of children and promoting awareness of hunger worldwide and in our own communities, where we often forget it exists. Through Blessings in a Backpack, children on the free and reduced lunch program will be sent home with a backpack each Friday full of six non-perishable meals. The food is sold from a local grocery store at a reduced cost, which means a donation of just $100 will provide a backpack and food for one child for an entire school year. Research shows that when children are well fed attendance improves, test scores increase, and behaviour issues are reduced, making your donation impactful immediately and in the long term. Blessings in a Backpack is a program that facilitates neighbors to help neighbors: your donation will stay local and positively impact children you may already know. As a member of our community, Royal Oak Schools is grateful for all support of Blessings in a Backpack Royal Oak. Donations in the name of "NWCF: Blessings in a Backpack Royal Oak can be sent to: The North Woodward Community Foundation at 1120 East Long Lake, Suite 205, Troy, MI. The Royal Oak Woman's Club is a service organization, which supports many local charities and provides scholarships to Royal Oak high school seniors pursuing an education in the medical field. Since 1907 it has been a member of the General Federation of Women's Clubs (GFWC), which is a unifying force, bringing together local women's clubs, with members dedicated to strengthening their communities and enhancing the lives of others through volunteer service. With 100,000 members in affiliated clubs in every state and more than a dozen countries, GFWC members are community leaders who work locally to create global change by supporting the arts, preserving natural resources, advancing education, promoting healthy lifestyles, encouraging civic involvement, and working toward world peace and understanding. Membership is open to all women regardless of residency.
