Vote NO to Shooting Doves on November 7th

Morining dove picture There’s NO good reason to shoot mourning doves: * Doves are NOT overpopulated.
* Doves are shot for target practice, NOT for food.
* Doves are NOT harmful to humans, property or crops.
* There are already 40 game bird species in Michigan and there’s NO reason to add doves.
* It has been Michigan’s tradition to protect mourning doves since 1905, and there’s NO reason to change that now.

From our Readers

This was one of the eMails that we received in response to the article in a previous issue of the PJSN entitled "Don't Feel Left Out" . The article is here

Peggy Jo,
your response to the person that thought he/she should be treated "special" was absolutely ideal!

I always try to introduce myself to guests, tell them a bit about the history of the club, etc----BUT I also tell them that we are not snobs or clickish --- it's just that many of us are very busy, we have been members for several years and may run into someone we haven't seen for a long time; so of course, we would prefer to talk to our old friend(s) first.

I also mention that the guest has a "social obligation" to introduce themselves to people as well. Therefore if they leave unhappy, they know in their hearts that they themselves didn't contribute anything to their evening!

Mary

Reply: What do you think?
Do some people always feel like outcasts or are some groups just snobbish??

Thanks again for your email. We have set up a web page to gather all these ideas. . Go there and submit a suggestion if you have one.

A Note From Linda

I want to share this encouraging note from my friend Linda a breast cancer survivor.

Peggy Jo

Today is my 63 birthday, and as I reflect on my past years, I must say this is the best one yet! Each year it gets better, I get smarter, gain more patience, become tolerant of things that used to bother me a lot, know the difference between surrounding yourself with positive friends and others who are really not there but pretend to be, and enjoying my family, friends, and my work more each day. I have treated myself to things that I would have waited to buy when I got older into my 70's, and done almost everything that I have wanted to do. I don't put off anything for tomorrow, I live in today, and make the most of each one.

I enjoy my correspondence with my long distance friends, love chatting with people who are survivors of cancer and listen to their stories; I find great comfort knowing that many of us out here are living in the "now", and take life one day at a time. The roses smell sweeter, the sky bluer, the grass greener, and when I smile back at people, they smile back at me. I count myself one of the lucky ones to be so fortunate to have such a wonderful life; filled with much pleasure, hard work, and surrounded by those who are important in my life. I cry for my friends who are hurting, mourn for the friends I have lost over this past year, and take every opportunity I can to find time for those who are lost along the way, or need an extra push to move along with encouragement. There is honestly nothing to be afraid of anymore, anyone going through cancer will tell you that, and believe me, that is some miracle.

Going to Israel with Lara for that 4 day trip was something that although my family was frightened by the danger of events there, never once bothered me. How wonderful it is to be so free, and comfortable in your own skin! So at 63, I thank all of you for making my life richer in some way, for giving me your help, love, advice, warmth, encouragement, and friendship with love making my life so rich. Yes, this 63rd birthday is my best one yet!

I like her outlook!!
"You go Girl"
