Thank your for your time

Over the phone, his mother told him, "Mr. Belser died last night. The funeral is Wednesday." Memories flashed through his mind like an old newsreel as he sat quietly remembering his childhood days.
"Jack, did you hear me?"
"Oh, sorry, Mom. Yes, I heard you. It's been so long since I thought of him. I'm sorry, but I honestly thought he died years ago," Jack said---
"Well, he didn't forget you. Every time I saw him he'd ask how you were doing. He'd reminisce about the many days you spent over 'his side of the fence' as he put it," Mom told him.
"I loved that old house he lived in," Jack said.
"You know, Jack, after your father died, Mr. Belser stepped in to make sure you had a man's influence in your life," she said.
"He's the one who taught me carpentry," he said. "I wouldn't be in this business if it weren't for him. He spent a lot of time teaching me things he thought were important. Mom, I'll be there for the funeral," Jack said.
As busy as he was, he kept his word. Jack caught the next flight to his hometown. Mr. Belser's funeral was small and uneventful. He had no children of his own, and most of his relatives had passed away.
The night before he had to return home, Jack and his Mom stopped by to see the old house next door one more time.
Standing in the doorway, Jack paused for a moment. It was like crossing over into another dimension, a leap through space and time. The house was exactly as he remembered. Every step held memories. Every picture, every piece of furniture. Jack stopped suddenly---
"What's wrong, Jack?" his Mom asked.
"The box is gone," he said
"What box?" Mom asked.
"There was a small gold box that he kept locked on top of his desk. I must have asked him a thousand times what was inside. All he'd ever tell me was 'the thing I value most,'" Jack said.
It was gone. Everything about the house was exactly how Jack remembered it, except for the box. He figured someone from the Belser family had taken it.
"Now I'll never know what was so valuable to him," Jack said. "I better get some sleep. I have an early flight home, Mom."

It had been about two weeks since Mr. Belser died. Returning home from work one day Jack discovered a note in his mailbox: "Signature required on a package. No one at home. Please stop by the main post office within the next three days," the note read. Early the next day Jack retrieved the package. The small box was old and looked like it had been mailed a hundred years ago. The handwriting was difficult to read, but the return address caught his attention. "Mr. Harold Belser" it read. Jack took the box out to his car and ripped open the package. There inside was the gold box and an envelope. Jack's hands shook as he read the note inside.

"Upon my death, please forward this box and its contents to Jack Bennett. It's the thing I valued most in my life." A small key was taped to the letter. His heart racing, as tears filling his eyes, Jack carefully unlocked the box. There inside he found a beautiful gold pocket watch.

Running his fingers slowly over the finely etched casing, he unlatched the cover. Inside he found these words engraved:

"Jack, Thanks for your time! -Harold Belser."
"The thing he valued most was--- my time"
Jack held the watch for a few minutes, then called his office and cleared his appointments for the next two days. "Why?" Janet, his assistant asked.
"I need some time to spend with a friend," he said.
"Oh, by the way, Janet, thanks for your time!"

Think about this. You may not realize it, but it's 100% true.
1. At least 15 people in this world love you in some way..
2. A smile from you can bring happiness to anyone, even if they don't like you.
3. Every night, SOMEONE thinks about you before they go to sleep.
4. You mean the world to someone.
5. If not for you, someone may not be living.
6. You are special and unique.
7. When you think you have no chance of getting what you want, you probably won't get it, but if you trust God to do what's best, and wait on His time, sooner or later, you will get it or something better.
8. When you make the biggest mistake ever, something good can still come from it.
9. When you think the world has turned its back on you, take a look: you most likely turned your back on the world.
10. Someone that you don't even know exists loves you.
11. Always remember the compliments you received. Forget about the rude remarks.
12 . Always tell someone how you feel about them; you will feel much better when they know and you'll both be happy .
13. If you have a great friend, take the time to let them know that they are great.

Dear Peggy Jo,
Please let the former members of Kirk Singles know about a special memorial service to honor Dr. Patricia Hollencamp who passed away. It will be on Saturday November 23 at 2 p.m.

Fortunately we found a date that both Dawn Kurc, Pat's daughter, & Tom Duckwall, her fiancee, will be able to attend & be our honored guests. We know you'd all like to share your condolences with them.

The Art of the Edge: American Picture Frames of the Gilded Age

Speaker Suzanne E. Smeaton, Independent Frame Historian

Chair for the evening is Susan Larsen

Frames have been an integral part of the presentation of artworks for centuries; this was especially true at the turn of the 19th to the 20th century during the Gilded Age when extraordinary frames were designed by not only framemakers but also by artists and architects, embodying the opulence of the time. Frame historian Suzanne Smeaton will offer a presentation focusing on this period and will discuss factors that contribute to the successsful marriage of painting and frame, such as historically appropriate decorative elements, scale and surface tonality. Viewing images of period interiors, museum exhibitions, framed artworks and artists' studios, Ms. Smeaton will discuss the role of the patron and artist alike in selecting frames for paintings.

Laser Tag
Catholic Alumni Club

SUN 2013-11-10
LASER TAG

Laser Quest in Madison Heights is one of the best facilities around for playing laser tag. And, unlike paintball, the only pain you'll feel is that of your WOUNDED PRIDE when you see the computer tabulated rankings of who hit whom and how many times! The cost is $8.50 per game, each game lasting 15 - 20 minutes not including prep time and listening to the instructions on how to play, "the warrior's code," etc. Join us for a game or two, followed by dinner where we can share "war" stories. (Hint: the black light in use will make you stand out if you wear anything light colored or reflective. Dark colors are the best camouflage.) The address for Laser Quest is 31401 John R., Madison Heights, between 13 and 14 Mile roads, near Whitcomb, one half mile south of Oakland Mall. Expect to eat around 5:30 or 6:00 PM. For dinner, we will go to Red Robin, 31805 John R Rd. It is only one block from Laser Quest.

Please RSVP our host. CONTACT 810-499-4831 OR yes- marklapointe @gmail.com

The Detroit Repertory Theatre's artistic commitment and accomplishments help keep Detroit's rebirth active and alive. The Black Tie Gala brings together past Detroit Repertory Theatre artists and actors and civic minded Citizens who value the Detroit Rep's contributions to the cultural life of Metropolitan Detroit in an effort to bring hope to the community, vitality to the city and a promise of a future for the City of Detroit and the Detroit Repertory Theatre.

Individual tickets are $75 per person and include: a champagne and hors d'oeuvres reception followed by a Ceremony hosted by Mistress of Ceremonies, noted TV Host and Author, Amyre Makupson. Keynote Speaker Rochelle Riley of the Detroit Free Press will speak about the importance of the arts and the legacy of the Detroit Repertory Theatre followed by the annual presentation of the Subscriber Awards given to the Best Artists of the 2012/13 Season as voted by the Theatre's Subscribers. The evening will feature a presentation of the first play of the Rep's 57th Season, the Comedy about Seniors disobeying in an assisted living facility, A FACILITY FOR LIVING. The night winds down with a Champagne and Dessert Afterglow in the Lobby Gallery with the Detroit Rep's Artists of the past, present and future.

More information may be found on the Rep website: www.detroitreptheatre.com

About the Keynote Speaker

Rochelle RileyROCHELLE RILEY's commentary on social, political and cultural issues appears in the Detroit Free Press two to four times each week. She makes frequent television and radio appearances on National Public Radio and WDIV-TV 4's "Flashpoint." Rochelle writes passionately about public education, pop culture and local government. But no subject is off limits. At the Free Press, she has waged a 12-year campaign to improve adult literacy, recruiting thousands of volunteers and tens of thousands of dollars to the cause. Rochelle has worked at The Dallas Morning News, The Washington Post and the Courier-Journal in Louisville, Ky., where her 1996 debut column, which called for a museum honoring Louisville native Muhammad Ali, helped spur an $80 million campaign to build the Muhammad Ali Center, which opened in 2005. Rochelle has won many state and national honors. She is the author of three collections - "From the Heart," "Life Lessons" and "Raising A Parent: Lessons My Daughter Taught Me While We Grew Up Together." She has just completed her first novel. About the play A FACILITY FOR LIVING

Set in the not so distant future, the play centers around seniors trying to live a meaningful life in an assisted living facility. Nurse Claudia is a tough love practitioner who runs Federal Nursing Home #273 by the book. Resentment runs high when Joe joins the residents. Joe's acting history coupled with the help of facility aide Kevin, who wants to make 10 second cell phone movies for viewing at red lights, inspires the residents to take over and life at the facility becomes a hilarious camp of rebellion.

About the Detroit Repertory Theatre

The oldest professional (Union) non-profit theatre in the State of Michigan, the Detroit Repertory Theatre's mission is guided by the belief that the sense of community is stronger than the forces that splinter and that efforts to preserve unity deserve the same attention and support as the justly cultivated efforts to retain diversity. The implicit goal in all the theatre's efforts is to produce the best possible professional theatre while fostering cultural democratization of the arts, and fighting by example, the disturbing level of racism that still exists. www.detroitreptheatre.com
