The Wooden Bowl
From an Email I received.:
I guarantee you will remember the tale of the Wooden Bowl
tomorrow, a week from now, a month from now, a year from now.
A frail old man went to live with his son, daughter-in-law, and four-year -
The old man's hands trembled, his eyesight was blurred, and his step
The family ate together at the table. But the elderly grandfather's shaky
failing sight made eating difficult. Peas rolled off his spoon onto the
When he grasped the glass, milk spilled on the tablecloth.
The son and daughter-in-law became irritated with the mess.
'We must do something about father,' said the son.
'I've had enough of his spilled milk, noisy eating, and food on the floor.'
So the husband and wife set a small table in the corner.
There, Grandfather ate alone while the rest of the family enjoyed dinner.
Since Grandfather had broken a dish or two, his food was served in a wooden
When the family glanced in Grandfather's direction, sometimes he had a tear
in his eye as he sat alone.
Still, the only words the couple had for him were sharp admonitions when he
dropped a fork or spilled food.
The four-year-old watched it all in silence.
One evening before supper, the father noticed his son playing with wood
scraps on the floor.
He asked the child sweetly, 'What are you making?' Just as sweetly, the boy
'Oh, I am making a little bowl for you and Mama to eat your food in when I
' The four-year-old smiled and went back to work.
The words so struck the parents so that they were speechless.
Then tears started to stream down their cheeks.
Though no word was spoken, both knew what must be done.
That evening the husband took Grandfather's hand and gently led him back
to the family table.
For the remainder of his days he ate every meal with the family. And for
neither husband nor wife seemed to care any longer when a fork was dropped,
milk spilled, or the tablecloth soiled.
On a positive note, I've learned that, no matter what happens,
how bad it seems today, life does go on, and it will be better tomorrow.
I've learned that you can tell a lot about a person by the way he/she
handles four things:
a rainy day, the elderly, lost luggage, and tangled Christmas tree lights.
I've learned that, regardless of your relationship with your parents,
you'll miss them when they're gone from your life.
I've learned that making a 'living' is not the same thing as making a
I've learned that life sometimes gives you a second chance.
I've learned that you shouldn't go through life with a catcher's mitt on
You need to be able to throw something back
I've learned that if you pursue happiness, it will elude you.
But, if you focus on your family, your friends, the needs of others,
your work and doing the very best you can, happiness will find you
I've learned that whenever I decide something with an open heart, I usually
make the right decision.
I've learned that even when I have pains, I don't have to be one.
I've learned that every day, you should reach out and touch someone.
People love that human touch -- holding hands, a warm hug, or just a
friendly pat on the back.
Hanukkah is the annual Jewish festival celebrated on eight successive days beginning on the 25th day of Kislev, the third month of the Jewish calendar, corresponding, approximately, to December in the Gregorian calendar. This year it begins at sundown on Sunday December 21, 2008 for the 8 day celebration.
It is also known as the Festival of Lights, Feast of Dedication, and Feast of the Maccabees, Hanukkah commemorates the rededication of the Temple of Jerusalem by Judas Maccabee in 165 BC after the Temple had been profaned by Antiochus IV Epiphanes, king of Syria and overlord of Palestine.
Fabiola is now famous because she is appearing in the "Got Mustard Campaign" .She is also famous for hosting a "Glitzy" fundraiser this year. The proceeds of the the party to be held on December 20 ( see the ad and Saturday's events) will go to "Grace Centers of Hope" . If you would like to attend a dress up , black tie optional event in a fashionable home contact Jay at 248-761-0955.
So when you see or contact "Fab" be sure to tell her you've seen her in the "Got Mustard" campaign. You can see the other 550 plus people by clicking on the underlined words above.
So many people have volunteered to participate that we have found it necessary to change the way the slide show runs so that people can browse rather than wait to see their photo with the "digital mustard" on their upper lip. One can replace the phrase in the section box with their first name and deleting any other text in the box. Then only the slides that contain that name are displayed.
If you had your photo taken and can't find it in the slide show please send us an email. If you would like to send a photo to be included, send it to email@example.com. We will supply the "digital mustard".
From Our Readers:
Dear Peggy Jo,
Who can I thank for the great dinner dance that Somerset put on . Sax Appeal is awesome! They kept everyone dancing all night and everyone was so upbeat. I haven't been to an event that was this much fun in a very long time.
Sax Appeal played all kinds of dance music and they were never too loud that you couldn't also have a conversation with Some one .
I'll let Judy Benn know so that she can pass the thanks to the proper people. Glad you had a good time.
Oh look, yet another Christmas TV special! How touching to have the meaning of Christmas brought to us by cola, fast food, and beer... Who'd have ever guessed that product consumption, popular entertainment, and spirituality would mix so harmoniously?"

And the Grinch, with his Grinch-feet ice cold in the snow, stood puzzling and puzzling, how could it be so? It came without ribbons. It came without tags. It came without packages, boxes or bags. And he puzzled and puzzled 'till his puzzler was sore. Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn't before. What if Christmas, he thought, doesn't come from a store? What if Christmas, perhaps, means a little bit more?" Dr. Seuss
