Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel , God is with us." Isaiah 7:14
“WHEN Scrooge awoke, it was so dark, that looking out of bed, he could scarcely distinguish the transparent window from the opaque walls of his chamber”. Thus begins the 2nd chapter of the world’s most famous Christmas story, ”A Christmas Carol”, by Charles Dickens. Christmas stories are important tools for spreading Christmas cheer. Actually it is said that “A Christmas Carol”, saved Christmas as we know it today. When Dickens wrote his story in the 18th century, the celebration of Xmas was on the wane. But Dickens used his story to describe Christmas as a time of joy, a time when people respect each other, and a time when everything is all right. People liked to hear this story, and in the following years, happy Christmas stories became more and more popular together with the decorated Christmas tree, Christmas gifts, and the overall Christmas spirit. If you like Christmas stories, you can print and read the Christmas stories from this page.

Sailing, Pure and Sometimes Simple Detroit Regional Yacht-racing Association
WED 2010-01-06 'Sailing, Pure and Sometimes Simple'
is a potpourri look at the joys of sailing from four different viewpoints by people who are living their dreams. Chuck Knowles and Margi Schneider are a year round live aboard
couple who regularly leave the daily routine of their Detroit jobs to explore the world from the water. “Skip” Gmeiner has enjoyed growing up on, sailing and maintaining a famous NY 32 classic yacht Apache that has been in his family, and at the DYC, since 1940. John Barbour’s local racing prowess is well known to many of us who have raced the bigger boats; he will share his Mackinac race experiences with us. And finally, Dawn Riley, a local woman who got her start on Lake St. Clair followed her dream to become the pioneering CEO and Captain of America True (America’s Cup Campaign) and one of the best-known sailors in the world. Join us to hear their stories at the Grosse Pointe Yacht Club on the evening of January 6, 2010 from 7:00 – 9:00 pm for the first seminar in this year’s outstanding series.

'Assignment Detroit' and the Culture of Innovation Inforum- A Professional Women's Alliance
Inforum Special Event:
Time Inc. Chairman and CEO to Talk Innovation
at Inforum Luncheon on Jan. 15
DETROIT // On Jan. 15, Time Inc.'s Chairman and CEO Ann Moore will be in Detroit to talk about the media giant's ground-breaking Assignment Detroit project and how it fits into building a culture of innovation at Time Inc.
Moore will speak at a luncheon hosted by Inforum, Michigan's largest and most prestigious business forum for women, starting at 11:30 a.m., at the Detroit Marriott.
Time Inc. made waves locally and nationally when it purchased a home in Detroit and announced plans to spend an entire year getting to know the city better. Moore says the project is part of Time Inc.'s strategy for altering the landscape of the publishing world with new technology, novel approaches and fresh thinking.
"Like the state of Michigan, Time Inc (and the entire publishing industry) is going through a dramatic transformation," Moore said. "Just as Time Inc has diversified beyond print-based content, Michigan now has to diversify beyond reliance on auto manufacturing. In that kind of environment, bold innovations (like our Assignment Detroit project) are the key to moving forward."
Inforum CEO Terry Barclay says Moore's vision fits perfectly with the message of reinvention and renewal, which has been the main theme of Inforum's 2009-2010 events.
"When it comes to getting out of a crisis, sticking to the script and doing what's expected usually is not a good strategy," Barclay said. "When the world changes around them, the most successful leaders show imagination, exhibit courage and take calculated risks when others are inclined to play safe. Our goal this year has been to point people in that direction. For that reason, we're thrilled to be hosting Ann Moore."
Tickets to the luncheon are available now. The cost is $50 for Inforum members or $65 for nonmembers. For reservations visit the calendar at www.inforummichigan.org or call 313.578.3230.
Inforum is one of the largest and most prestigious business forums for women in the nation, with more than 1,800 members from a broad cross-section of Michigan's business community. The mission of the organization is to strengthen the business environment by creating opportunities for women to lead and succeed. Founded as the Women's Economic Club in 1962 in Detroit, Inforum has affiliates in Grand Rapids and Lansing, Michigan. For more information, visit www.inforummichigan.org or call 877.633.3500.
