Dear Peggy Jo,

The Arts Transform People and Places Across Michigan

As supporters of the arts, culture and creativity, you know arts and culture are vital to Michigan's economic resilience, the vibrancy of our communities and the education of our children. This year, ArtServe's advocacy for rebuilding the state's arts investment was again successful with Governor Snyder and the Legislature allocating $8.15 million for state arts funding - up from $6.15 million - the first increase in back-to-back years in more than a decade. These funds support arts, culture and arts education programs and projects in local communities all across Michigan!

Your help now is ever more critical, as we work with our grassroots networks statewide to continue rebuilding the state investment in its arts, culture and creative assets in the FY 2015 state budget. Your gift will help us gain momentum in returning state arts funding to levels aligned with the sector's social and economic impacts.

As the year-end deadline for giving fast approaches, know that ArtServe Michigan is made stronger by your tax-deductible individual donations and/or organizational membership renewal. Thank you for your steadfast support in showing the arts matter in Michigan and that they matter to you!

Yours Truly,
Jennifer Goulet

The Puck Drops Here New Years Eve Bash
Ann Arbor Ski Club

TUE 2013-12-31

I'm guessing this will be on Main St between Washington & Liberty. Lets meet at Grizzly Peak for dinner/drinks at 6:30pm. Then we'll head outside around 8pm for the puck lighting & street party. Diane Gledhill is the host for this event 734-368-5237 or diane82103@yahoo.com.

The Ann Arbor Area Convention & Visitors Bureau is excited to host a New Year's Eve street party in downtown Ann Arbor. The evening will feature six hours of live entertainment and a midnight ball drop. The headlining musical entertainment artist will be Michelle Chamuel, star of 'The Voice' and former Ann Arborite. Chamuel will perform with Tyler Duncan and their band, S/HE. Chamuel, who also performs under her electronic alias The Reverb Junkie, recently released her first solo album titled "All I Want." The night will also feature DJs Robert Lux, Ross Federman, DJ Scout and live drumming from Mike Shea. Matthew Altruda, host of Tree Town Sound on Ann Arbor's 107.1 will be the master of ceremonies for The Puck Drops Here.

Local design and fabrication studio METAL is constructing the puck to descend at midnight. "In keeping with the theme of the event, we will actually be lowering a 10-foot puck lit with 6,000 LED lights," says METAL visionary John Walters. There will be a lighting ceremony at 8 p.m. to kick off the event. Complete details, including the specific location of the free event will become available in the coming weeks.

Detroit's Brewing History

THU 2014-01-30

While Stroh Brewery (in operation from 1850 to 1985) was Detroit's largest, dozens of breweries opened in the metropolitan area in the last 150 years, and several thrived for generations. From early Anglo-Saxon ale brewers to the present revival by microbrewers, Detroit's brewing history features an impressive ethnic and economic diversity of entrepreneurial families experiencing fortunes and failures throughout the years while contributing to a rich brewing culture that continues today.
